Vista is getting a lot of bad press due to the UAC function that they added to this O/S. If you disable it and have a firewall and anti virus program on your computer, the dreaded UAC can be fully disabled and you won't even know it is around. I have UAC disabled, and my computer works like XP on Steroids. It is a new computer with a Q6600 quad processor and 4 gig of ram, so that helps tremendously. Back in August/September of 2007, it had a lot of problems with programs shutting down unceremoniously, but as of June 2008, it is working very stably, and I for one am very happy to have it installed. I think that lot of the negative comments that you read have to do with the way things were 6 months ago or so. Don't be afraid to buy a new computer with Vista, since it will at least have a duo core and 2 gig of ram. This is enough to give you an enjoyable experience.

Yeah, but there's still that pesky Vista software compatibility issue, which isn't an issue if all of your software is less that about a year and a half old, and you don't play computer games... and then there's still that pesky driver issue, which will probably never be resolved, leaving many users with printers, and other peripherals which won't work with Vista. If I were to install Vista on any of my systems, I'd end up being several thousand dollars out of pocket for software and hardware updates just to get it to run trouble free. I'm sorry, but UAC is not Vista's only major problem... Although it may be fine for new users who have never owned a computer before, and therefore, don't have to worry about most of the incompatibilities or problems, unless they're gamers.

Its time for Microsoft to stop its greedy practices.

I dont want to install a new OS unless it has dramatic improvements.

I got Vista Ultimate in a new Gateway FX530XV with 4GB of RAM since a month after Vista was released and am entirely happy with it. I really can't see why people are so steamed about the UAC - all it takes is one click and its gone. I've had Auto Update enabled the whole time and of course now have SP1. I have never had any trouble with anything not working, but with new things I make sure that they are Vista rated. I like it much more than I did XP and there is certainly no way I would even consider consider reverting to XP.
