question before buying a new monitor

Hello,

I am thinking of buying a new monitor, but I thought of a question on which I haven't found a satisactory answer yet. At this moment I am using 2 regular-format 17-inch monitors. I am considering on buying a 19 inch wide-screen monitor, which I want to replace for one of the monitors I am using curently. My question: is it possible to keep using 2 monitors, a widescreen and a regular-format, and possibly in 2 different resolutions? I have an ATI HD2600 Pro AGP video-card, but I think that is unnecesary information.

A bonus question: would an random individual be happy if one got a 17 inch CRT monitor which brightness is a bit sucky, or should I just take it out of it's missery and let it be recycled? (Implying on the monitor I want to substitute)

I thank you in advance for the help on these two.

Yes you can dual monitors with any monitors, but you just gota make sure you have a vga and dvi slot for your monitors on your computer. If you have both then your fine. Usually i like to have 2 of the same monitors if im going to dual them because it just looks better in my opinion.

Yes, you can run two monitors of different size and aspect ratio and run them at different resolutions (either if you want...i.e. same size and aspect ratio, but you just want to run one at a higher resolution or if you have to...i.e. one is a different aspect ratio or size). This assumes your grapihcs card can support such an effort, which will usually be true. On my new computer, I am running one widescreen 20" monitor and one 19" more traditional aspect ratio monitor (both LCDs). I deliberately wanted the more traditional aspect ratio as it can be rotated for either portrait or landscape mode (OK, so just about any monitor can actually be rotated, but this one does so on its stand...not having to "fudge" the rotation).

As to your CRT, most likely most would not be interested...mainly due to the size (17" is kind of small these days...amazing how what we deem acceptable changes...used to be 13" CRTs where standard and a 17" was HUGE)...BUT there might be someone who games who might want it...generally speaking, while CRTs are heavier and more of a pain in the butt to have sitting a desk, some gamers like them better as most LCD's still have ghosting when playing very fast motion games.
