Re: WindowsXP shutting down, blue screen and then recover from serious error!

Hey jammer!!

Nice to hear from you. I was wondering if something had gone very wrong.

But, it seems that you are doing well , and I'm glad for you.

You do not have to uninstall any of your peripherals attached to your PC.

Simply disconnect one at a time to see if the services and drivers used by that

peripheral has any impact on operating SP3.

In other words , if you disconnect ,say, your printer and keep working with your PC

and no blue screen appears for a while then , it might be that a new version of a

driver is needed.

Keep doing this with all of the attached peripherals you normally use.

I am looking forward to hearing on how things are work out for you Jammer.

Re: WindowsXP shutting down, blue screen and then recover from serious error!

Hey Jammer!!

I'm so sorry I didn't get to you any earlier. I didn't read my e-mails today and by the

time I got in the forum your post got pushed off to the third page and did not see it.

OK, the files that CCleaner wants to delete are safe to delete. A desktop.ini file

is a file that Windows generates whenever you change something on your PC.

Like add a program or you customize a program. It is a file that is duplicated from the original file

in the protected files. This kind of file will come back whether you delete or not. It will eventually

take allot of space on your HDD if they are not deleted once in a while.

To put your mind at ease, lets use the ATF Cleaner like Spirit suggested. It will only delete files

like ,Internet Temporary files and Flash Files and Macromedia files and Java files which should not stay on your PC .

So, here is the link to download the ATF Cleaner.

ATF Cleaner by Atribune.org .

This little app. will not install , it is only an .exe and you just double click on the .exe and then put a check mark next to

Select All,

click on the Empty Selected.

It is a VERY safe cleaner and only takes a few seconds to run.

So, Jammer , how is that machine of yours behaving? Are you still getting Blue Screens

or is the PC working properly.

You have to inform me once in a while right?

Talk to you latter Jammer.

FLASHORN.

Re: WindowsXP shutting down, blue screen and then recover from serious error!
Be careful using System Mechanic. It has gotten very mixed reviews in the past, and its registry cleaner is especially dangerous. I tried it years ago (before I knew better), and ended up having to reformat my hard drive. I found out later that many users had experienced the same types of problems that I had (corrupted registry and files). I have found that CCleaner does a good job of cleaning out useless files, but don't use its registry repair utility... In fact, unless it's absolutely necessary, don't use ANY registry repair utility unless you know exactly what you're deleting. Also, be careful when deleting duplicate files. Some system files are duplicated, and if those duplicates are removed, will cause your system to become unstable, or even unusable in some cases. I don't think that there would be a conflict between System Mechanic and CCleaner since neither is active until you actually manually run their respective utilities.

Hey Jammer!!

Good , nice to hear from you!

One question I don't think I asked. Is your Hard Drive very old and is it making any noise.

It might also be that it wants to die on you but , that is just a thought. If it's good for now then

we will just let it go at that.

Talk to you soon, Jammer.

Been there twice myself and the last time I re-formatted my hard drive and started over from scratch. I can put you on to the clue that will see you return

your system to it's old self. The line - "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" refers to the order in which the IRQLs load into memory on boot up. But the way to correct this is to check every driver that you have installed until you find the outdated driver! Mine was the same both times - the nVidia MX550 GeForce Video Card. When you boot up and the BIOS screen appears, quickly memorize the order in which the IRQLs load. Then after you have updated the driver file that is causing the stop ERROR - make a digital photograph of the BIOS screen so that you can quickly spot trouble.
