IE windows and tabs very slow to open


I am using IE 7 and I am getting really bogged down as my new IE windows and tabs opening very slowly. If I reuse a window or tab the new content loads in a flash. Firefox seems to have the same issue, so I am thinking it is a system problem. I am using XPSP2, Windows firewall, CA Antivirus, 2gig memory 300gig hd of which I am using 150 gig.

Any Ideas as to what is happening or how to solve the issue?

Additionally, my current download speed is 8.5mbs

Does it consistantly do this? Or does it only happen at certain times?


Cable modem or DSL service? Is the 8.5 Mbps a measured bandwidth or is it what your ISP tells you that you have (i.e. advertised bandwidth)?

This is consistent; a new window or tab takes 20 to 25 seconds to load content, whereas reusing an open window will load in 2-3 seconds.

I am comnnected via cable and have tested my download speeds at between 6.5 and 9 mbs depending on the time of day.

Have you flushed the browser cache recently? Don't know if that will help or not...but worth a try.

Yeah, I should have said that; I cleared cache, cookies and even all history. Reebooted after. Reinstalled Java too.

which could possibly "catch" One of the MAJOR reasons for what you are experiencing ;

would recommend : 1) the FREE Ver of "SUPERAntiSpyware" available from

http://www.superantispyware.com/ ; 2) the "FREE" Ver of "MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware",

available from http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php .

Which "Java" did you reinstall ?
