Cannot View Picture Manager Tags Unless Using Windows Vista - Cannot Print Picture Manager Tags

So, MS Office 2007 Picture Manager has this friggen' nifty option where you can add tags - descriptions - other than what you name it - to your pictures.

We used this handy feature to document something like 2100!! pictures to forward on to others.

Problem! Unless you have Vista, you can't see the tags. Even if you have Vista, you can't print the picture(s) with the tags. I emailed Microsoft, but they blew me off.

Any one know if there is software that has been created or know the solution to printing the tags?

Re: Cannot View Picture Manager Tags Unless Using Windows Vista - Cannot Print Picture Manager Tags

Hi, Jmcb.

I haven't actually used Office 2007's Picture Manager, but I'd be surprised if it's not using the tags built into the jpeg file format. They're there for any program that can use them.

You can search by tag using either XP's or Vista's versions of Windows Explorer. If you tell the search tool that you're searching for photos, one of the options is Tags.

But there are better ways. Vista comes with a very good photo organizing program, Windows Photo Gallery, that uses these tags. An improvement on Photo Gallery, Windows Live Photo Gallery, is available as a free download from Microsoft and works with XP as well as Vista.

I think that the organizer in Photoshop Elements can also use these tags, but last time I tried it, it used them in a very clumsy way.

Lincoln. Thanks for the reply; however, the problem is that unless a person/company has Vista they cannot read the tags, and even with Vista the tags do not print when you print the picture.

I appreciate your taking the time to help though, it is quite a quandry. I've inquired to a number of geeks - no one knows how to resolve the issue.

The tags should be visible in any version of Windows if the user right-clicks the picture, selects Properties, and clicks the Details tab. And as I said, XP users can search by tag with XP's search tool (admittedly, its clumsy) , or organize photos with the tags easily if they download and install Windows Live Photo Gallery. There are probably other programs that support them, as well.

I don't know a way to print the tags.

Thanks Lincoln, but we're dealing with over 2,000 pictures that have been 'tagged' with descriptions.

Moving forward, hopefully MS will resolve the issue with another Vista service pack. I
Well, if the problem is accessing tags outside of Vista, I don't see how a Vista service pack will help. Maybe if you give us more details about what you're doing with these pictures and how tags play a part in that, we can help find a solution.
