Alternative to Adobe Pro?

I am looking for an alternative (and free) app to Adobe Professional 6.0, which I use for the following functions:
1. Converting Word docs, web pages etc to PDFs via the native apps print function
2. Reading and highlighting (like a yellow highlight marker) documents
3. Exporting said highlights, either as PDF or Word, to use as an exec summ of the longer original PDF

I'm looking for an alternative because I cannot get Adobe to terminate acrotray.exe and acrodist.exe when it closes - I have to manually kill them with task manager EVERY TIME I use a PDF (dozen a day!)

try foxit. The reader is free but the editor and creator arent. But there are trial versions available. Its very light as compared to the adobe reader and acrobat. Worth a try .

Hello...

I stumbled across a nice little program called Perfect PDF Creator. It is working very well for me.

It plays nice with Vista, too!

Free it ain't, but twenty bucks is a major bargain!

Hey jimy!!

I don't know if this site will help but, you could always give it a try.

Gizmo has allot of freeware that has been tested by his troops .

Maybe one will fit the bill.

Flashorn has provided an excellent link for you. GIZMO has a lot of good free stuff.

There's another that I found for you, deskPDF which has been featured on PC Magazine. Here's the link to it http://www.docudesk.com/index.shtml

I don't think it's free, but they do have a trial version which you can download.

PrimoPDF installs as a virtual printer, thus allowing you to convert any document or web page to PDF - and it is free.

PDF-XChange Viewer, also free, has more features than Foxit Reader without the bloat of Adobe (though Foxit has made recent strides - especially with the editor which I really like).

PDF-XChange Viewer will allow you to highlight passages and save them as such.

You can also copy and paste text from PDFs into a word processor and then convert it all back to PDF with Primo.
