Bought a discounted version of Kapersky 8.0, found out restrictions after I paid

It was about $34.00 for a one year license, Kapersky Internet Suite 2009 8.0...I thought this was a 'too good to be true' price. But I went ahead and got it anyway. The following are the terms and conditions I was given after they recieved payment I highlighted in bold some things I did not like....as said, finding out after I paid. One thing is it was suppose to be for one year....it states that in Paypal as well, I used Paypal for this transaction. I don't think I'll have a hard time recovering my money (I hope) but I wanted to know if anyone has heard of this company...it's called "ALBERTA LTD." Here is the Paypal info even though it doesn't say Paypal....(had to go to get the name of the company, may as well post the transaction) Sorry for such a long post, but I wanted to get as much info on so you can see whats going on...thanks for your help

Re: Bought a discounted version of Kapersky 8.0, found out restrictions after I paid
Hi Whatup. First, I have moved this Discussion from the Windows Community into the Privacy & Security Community. Now, there are several red flags here that I would like to address.

  • Never pay anything from an unknown third party no matter how good the deal may seem

  • A search for Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0 indicated that this suite is in BETA stage and is only available for release in a trial format

  • The full version is available for $60

The only bright side to this is that you, presumably, paid with PayPal. That all being said, there is nothing in the Terms & Conditions that would indicate to me that this is a fraudulent company. Most trial products are not eligible for technical support. Most trial products cannot be installed twice. Most trial products suggest that you buy the full version after the trial is over. In all honesty, I do not see an issue here.

Re: Bought a discounted version of Kapersky 8.0, found out restrictions after I paid
I have to admit, after reviewing the site you provided, I can definitely see where the issue lies. You are correct. There is absolutely no reference to a trial and to a layperson, this would appear to be a valid offer for a well-known product.

However, a major red flag jumps out at me when I clicked on the "Order Now" button.....I was redirected to Paypal. That is an absolute no-no. Any company that sells products should have a legitimate buying system that accepts all forms of payment including credit card. That may be slightly different for companies that offer services such as mine (computer services) or a very small business. If anything, one should have been redirected to Kaspersky website to complete the payment transaction. Here is a snippet of the main webpage of the company from where you purchased this Trial: (Click on the image to expand it.)

Capture.JPG

This website is basically a sham. Calibex.net basically just downloaded a copy of the trial version and is selling it as a full retail version.

That being said, I tried to go to the Kaspersky website (and have been trying to go to the Kaspersky website since this Discussion started) and I continue to get a Page Load Error. The site may be down or it may otherwise be unavailable at this time. In any regard, absolutely contact Paypal and bring this to their attention. I would even suggest you include a link to both the aforementioned website as well as this Discussion. I cannot guarantee that you will get your money back, but at least you will bring this to them in case other people have not.

To answer your question, the best advice I can provide to you is to review the already extensive collection of information provided by our members in the Privacy & Security Community. You can access this Community by clicking here to get an idea of what other members suggest.

Additionally, there are two Documents that pretty much sum up what all of our members suggest:

Individual Programs ( "Layered" ) Approach to Security

Using the Tiered (or Layered) Approached to Protecting Your Computer

Re: Bought a discounted version of Kapersky 8.0, found out restrictions after I paid
Hey whatup!!

It's been a long time whatup!

If you are searching for all in one solution, the best on the market right now

is "ESET NOD32" . This has been the most effective anti malware for the

last two years running.ESET NOD32 .

If you would like to see another one that goes unoticed , give F-Secure a looksee.

It also has one of the best "Rootkit" detector in the business.

F-Secure .

As far as being resource hogs I don't know. If you take a look at the other discussions

in "Privacy & Security" you will quickly notice that we don't recommend using all-in-one

solutions. We rather use what we like to call a 'Layered" or "Tiered" solution which

involves having more than one scanner from a few select companies, which by the way

are mostly free. As you will find out from other members this is the most secure way

to keep the nasties away from your PC. We only use one Firewall , one Antivrus with full time scanning ,

and only one AntiSpyware with real time shields.

This works the best because not one Antimalware program can cover the spectrum of malware that is

growing at a alarming rate. We get the malware solution from more than one program to effectively

scan and detect the most maleware possible.

Anyways , this was just a brief description of how we protect our own systems.

If you would like to know more about our way of protection , just ask and we will do our best

to convince you of it's effectiveness.

Hi Whatup. Trust me, you are not naive. You just did not know any better. That is where this Community and people within the Community come in. If you have any further questions, please feel free to post.

Hi Lil. Thanks for that update. Do you have any idea why the Kaspersky website is down? From where exactly can Whatup get a valid version of 8.0?

Re: Bought a discounted version of Kapersky 8.0, found out restrictions after I paid

Hey whatup!!

Now you know you are always welcomed here no matter if it's to ask

or just chat. It's sure is nice to see that you are still "UP and Running".

Anytime you need answers or maybe just advice on a certain product

or program.

When you are done with your decision , come back and share your

experience and of course tell us which one you chose.

I know that one of the regular members has NOD32 and swears by it.

Just can't remember which one. I think it' techie4fun.

I'd like to share a few sites with you. One is a newsletter from well known

writers about things that effect us all :

WindowsSecret.com .

They are merging with a site that I recommend all the time for

the best free programs along with a review of these programs.

Gizmo's Tech Support Alert .

There is a paid for subscription but, the free version is all you

are going to need.

The second one is from Ask Woody : Woody's no-bull news .

he is my eyes and ears for all things Microsoft. Be it patches and their reliability or

if a new up-date is not working right along with links to other interesting sites.

Ok, look them over and enjoy the info. that they bring to us every week.

Anyways, it's good to hear from you again.

The sites down? It works fine for me. I saw it on amazon like couple weeks back where they sold it. Now they seemed to removed it until the official release in America next month or so. I dunno where my uncle i think amazon or was it an upgrade got his but he gave me a 1 year license and he bought like 3.
