Hi, Here is the information on your processor. http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL7Z9 . I may be wrong, but I didn't see anything about dual core. coastie

Hi Kimolias and welcome to the PCWorld Communities.:D

For future reference, please do not go back and edit your original post to add or remove some information. That makes it more difficult for the members to troubleshoot your issue. Can you detail what information you added to or removed from your original post?

Re: Best Motherboard for this CPU and RAM?
heres an answer to all of our questions, this will tell us for sure, just copy and paste the hardware part up:

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,8078-order,1-page,1/description.html

by the way it may freeze, it not frozen, it just takes like 4 minuites to take all the info (time may vary depending on system)

EDIT:

just thought of another 3Ghz pentium 4 that was dual core, the pentium extreme edition. It was a failure versus the athlons so they discontinued it tho

Re: Best Motherboard for this CPU and RAM?
Hi kimolias, First while at the Intel site, I did in fact see a mention of a "dual core P4". Now as to your question about the motherboard. If you get a motherboard that will support 1066 FSB ( system bus ), you can in fact run a processor with an 800 FSB. When you are ready to upgrade the processor, then you can go to one with the larger bus. By changing your motherboard to one that will support a faster bus, will give you better options later on. coastie

Re: Best Motherboard for this CPU and RAM?
I earlier told you to specify your cpu correctly. You then said its a dual core with 3 GHz. Then i said that i suspect your cpu to be pentium 4 and i gave reasons for it in my post #5 . Read it again.

After that you changed your initial post and confirmed that your cpu is e6850. (by editing your initial post) . The response was my post #9 . Read it again. There i had said 800MHz for the e6850.

That day , rgreen and me had a smalll discussion regarding this as you mobo cant support this e6850 cpu . This was mentioned by rgreen in his post #12 .We both knew at that time that yours is definitely a pentium 4 as we were earlier thinking. So he asked you to open it up and see.

You opened it and then saw its a P4 which you think is a dual core coz you saw two graphs in task manager. To clear uo this p4 with 2 cores mystery. There is no p4 with two cores . You saw two graphs because your processor has hyper-threading enabled (P4-HTT) .

Re: Best Motherboard for this CPU and RAM?
Hi piyush, Thanks for that bit of information. You just cleared up the dual graph thing for me as well. Incidently, I'm getting ready to drop a Pentium D 945 ( 3.4 Ghz) into this thing. Hey Guys maybe you need to check this link http://www.geek.com/intels-dual-core-presler-p4-xe-955-reviewed/

Re: Best Motherboard for this CPU and RAM?
thats the P4-extreme edition that kcihtred2 had mentioned. Unfortunately these were no where in the market as compared to P4-HTT which is very popular.
i think till he tells the exact cpu model no. himself , we cant help him in anything. what say ?

Oh, Ok. He had a picture of that thing in a link, but couldn't tell much from all the thermal compound.

Re: Best Motherboard for this CPU and RAM?
Your photos were helpful. I hope the exhaust of the cooler fan is toward the power supply and not the video card. There was another comment on the amount of thermal paste on the CPU. When you have occasion to re-install, you should use a THIN film. A thin film serves as a heat conduit, but a thick film serves as an insulator.

Also as pointed out the P4 is a single core with the Hyper Threading EMULATES a dual core by the way it handles the process. The socket type does not determine compatibility, but the associated chip set on the MB does. Gigabyte is very good about providing a list of supported pocessors for each of their motherboards. They also provide a list of memory modules that are certified to work in that MB.

Re: Best Motherboard for this CPU and RAM?
kcihtred2 - I note that your output from Belarc advisor looks entiry different from mine. I note that yours says ver 7.2t whereas mine is 7.2k. Have they changed the format of the printout? Mine looks the same in IE or Firefox.
