Unable to Remove Video File from Now Infected Computer

i have foolishly downloaded a duff video file onto my missus's laptop and its now infected. i have tried deleting (using unregister in c prompt) the dll files (names of which i found on other sites) but it cant find them, or tells me they were never registered. task manager is disabled and the pslist (to shut down the virus process) isnt recognised. help, this virus is sending me nuts. nothing seems to be working. can i access systemt restore from command prompt?

Hi aesir and welcome to the forum. Some more system information would be helpful such as the OS you are using. Also include any Antivirus apps you have installed as well as Anti Malware apps. coastie65

http://forums.pcworld.com/images/emoticons/grin.gif Hi :

In addition to what "coastie" has shared, you have not mentioned IF you are able to

"connect" to the internet !? If Yes, and based on probably the malware-infected codec

you downloaded, I recommend you Start with running a "Full Scan" of the FREE

"MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware, best downloaded from

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php .

Hi aesir, Your desktop issues could be due to graphics problems. Check your DEvice manager under Graphics Adapters and see if there are any yellow markers. coastie

Re: Unable to Remove Video File from Now Infected Computer
:D Hi :

It would be helpful IF you told us the SPECIFIC "Service Pack" Number that is "part" of your

Win XP Operating System !? It comes in either "SP1", "SP2", & "SP3" . Most likely you realize

now that your Choices for security were not that good, though voluntarily downloading a

malware-infected codec did not help !? Other than the 3 security programs you mentioned,

what other programs that MIGHT be helpful is on your computer ? You wouldn't by chance

have a program called "WinsockxpFix" !?
