Hey whatup!!
OK, Intranet is a internal network or local network. If you are connected directly to the newspaper
you are talking about or connected to the local area network then, you may allow it. Otherwise the FW will block your connection
to it as you discovered. Don't forget that a FW is a leaning program and all of your
programs and connections are new to it. So, in order to learn what to connect to
or not to connect to well, it must ask permission. And from there when this program
or connection tries to make a connection with the internet then, the FW will
recognize the permission.
Do you ever get in IE7 at the top of the page a blue bar saying something like
"Intranet policies have been changed in favor of the more secure "Internet policies".
Well, that is why your FW is asking permission. Because an "Intranet network"
could be more vulnerable to an outside attack. But, in your case , if you know the network
then, you should allow the FW to connect to it.
Now, about your Trojans and backdoor and all the rest you have mentioned.
These are "By Default" rules .Meaning that IF you should ever get to a site that has one of
those on the site and tries to infect your PC ,The "By Default" rules built in the FW
will automatically BLOCK these infections "With Ought" asking for permission.
Do NOt delete any of those rules because then you would be vulnerable to an attack from
the rule that you deleted. Although , Avira would scare the hell out of you by sounding this
very loud and high pitch noise along with a pop-up asking you if you want to grant
permission or not. the pop-up usually has it already marked as permission denied\
and all you would have to do is click on the OK button.
FLASHORN,
Patience is life.
