Re: T-Shirt for MPH

Hi MPH,

Do you happen to know what 128KB translates to into MBs?

Re: T-Shirt for MPH
1000KBs (Kilobytes) = 1MB (Megabyte)

128KBs = .128MB (just over a tenth of a megabyte)

Re: T-Shirt for MPH
To be more precise ,
1024KB = 1MB
so, 128KB = 0.125MB

Actually, both are correct. 1024 bytes or 1000 bytes really depends on context. Generally, speaking 1 kilobyte refers to 1024 bytes when dealing with things that are based upon binary (base 2) numbers...things such as memory/RAM. 1 kilobyte refers to 1000 bytes when dealing with decimal (base 10) things, which tend to include bitrates (i.e. networking) and magnetic storage (i.e. disks). But, both are rather interchangeable in general. I will note that the difference is the whole reason why your hard drive will always seem "light" in capacity...hard drive manufacturers use the base 10 version....so when a lot of people use 1024 bytes per kilobyte, you end up short. And this has resulted in lawsuits and other silliness.

Re: T-Shirt for MPH
Thats why i said , "to be more precise" . The drive manufacturers use the decimal one. In the context of file size on drive , the binary one will be taken.

And yes, i remember a few months ago , there was a person here complaining about several GBs of space gone missing. But this cant be prevented, I guess. ?/?

Hi Adama. That may be a bit difficult, at least for right now. Only about 5 weeks of freedom left. :D I am busier than ever but may put something up in the fall.
