How Do I Transfer My Files and the Windows Operating System Over to the New Installed Hard Drive

I have a very humbling question to ask, that really makes me feel dumb.....

I installed a new hard drive on my system this morning and the computer recognizes it. It's set as my slave hard drive, and "my computer" doesn't have an icon acknowledging that it recognizes the new drive. I have no idea how to move files or windows itself over to the new drive so that I may get rid of my first, old, little hard drive. Can anyone make me feel a little dumb, but better about this whole situation and tell me what I'm not doing? Thank you all ahead of time.

Ballinbird - sometimes new drives are not initialized. When you boot the system watch the initial text that rolls down the screen (pause key will stop it) and make sure the drive is recognized in the BIOS.

Secondly, what is the operating system on your machine.

Is this drive IDE or SATA?

Hi Ballinbird. It is great that you solved your own issue; however, can you please tell ue what you did? Deleting this Discussion will do no good for other member that may have the same problem.

Re: How Do I Transfer My Files and the Windows Operating System Over to the New Installed Hard Drive
Because HD's are used in various Operating Systems these days, they many times now come needing to be initialized and then formatted. I have had several recently which is why the first line in my response was to initialize the drive, and the second step would be to format the drive. Remember that Mac and Linux use different file systems.

I appologize that I was not a little clearer.
