Re: XBox Delivers a Profit
This is not a good trend for video game systems. It's one thing to make the most advanced current video game system, and another to be successful and make a profit. Why is it necessary to design into the future custom chips with every new video game system instead of using already established ones that are a hair slower than the ones they are designing yet cost much less? Why do they feel it's necessary to charge much less for a game sytem than it costs to produce it? This idea may have worked in the past when game systems were around for a decade but not anymore when their is competition and new game systems every couple of years. This is just not smart business. They now know many parents will buy their kids anything and young adults will spend a small fortune on their past game systems, so why not come out with a new system every couple of years that utilizes second generation parts that are somewhat established? The Wii kind of did just that as far as graphics are concerned, was lower priced, had a unique concept, and was much more profitable.

I totally agree with the first poster. Wouldn't it be better to release a stripped down version of the current X-Box 360 similar to what Sony did with the Playstation 2 which has been selling well for I'm guessing at least 10 years?

AMD would probably sell their first born to get the chance to provide chips for a gaming system and they put out a cooler running chip than Intel at less cost.
