Looking for free software to rename multiple folders

I've fallen in love with CKRename, it does just about anything I want to do when it comes to renaming hundreds of files at once. But, I've hit upon one of it's few shortcomings - it won't rename folders (if it can, then I haven't figured out how

). Does anyone know of an easy way to rename dozens of folders at once? (Windows XP)

I dont use many 3rd party utilities as most of the things can be done without them .You can rename multiple files/folder by just selecting them all, then rt click and rename. All will be renamed with same name and a different tag in brackets .
I m not sure whether this will help you but it will do what you are trying to do.

You really ought to look into CKRename. It's capable of doing much, much more than this. For example: Have you ever tried to mass rename and change the file extention but leave the original filename alone? Such as, rename YOURS.DIVX, MINE.DIVX and OURS.DIVX to YOURS.AVI, MINE.AVI and OURS.AVI. This is just one of at least a dozen of things CKRename does easily.

To be honest, I've forgotten what I wanted it for now. I'd still love to have such a program though.

A single dos command will do that also.
But in the end , its user's choice.

I cut my teeth on MS-DOS 3.30 shortly after its release.

Ok, try this:

YOURS.DIVX, MINE.DIVX, OURS.DIVX, THEIRS.DIVX

Z_YOURS.AVI, {color:#ff0000}MINE.DIVX{color}, Z_OURS.AVI, Z_THEIRS.AVI

I've used (free) Bulk Rename Utility (from http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php ) for years. It has more bells & whistles than I'll ever use . . . & I rename 1000's of digital image files. It handles folders as well as files.
