OK.. I think I perfectly understand the difference between widescreen, anamorphic widescreen and normal 4:3 formats. So I have a question which I can't find information for.
I have an anamorphic video in PAL.. It's resolution is, normally, about
720 × 576.. I think that normal widescreen format has a resolution of 1049 x 576 (for the life of me I couldn't easily find the 16:9 PAL pixel resolution!).
Now, if I encode this in a DVD, there is a flag that tells the player to squeeze the image so it will properly display it in 16:9.. The video itself (before transferring it to DVD), however, doesn't provide such flag so when played from a video player on the computer you must manually select the aspect ratio.
Is there ANY program what so ever that will automatically convert my anamorphic 720x576 video to a 1049 x 576 normal widescreen? No, I don't want to letterbox it. That's still 720x576 4:3 format. I want true 1049 x 576 16:9.
The resolutions I found was from
this source. Also, the video is in DV PAL format.
Thank you,
Panagiotis
