AntiVirus is part of a Security Suite. Security suties can also include anti-spam, malware, and firewall components. For example, Norton Internet Security includes a firewall, anti-spam as well as anti-virus so that other factors are also being factored in here.

Also, note that the Security Suites were tested May 25, 2006 while the Anti-virus was January 25, 2006 which is a few months of difference.

What's best depends on a number of things since while you could use an all-in-one suite, you could also pick and choose the best in each category and make your own suite in a sense.

The difference between a standalone antivirus and a security suite are an antivirus is used to protect your system against malware and bitdefender scored the best according to consumer report this year. A security suite has all that and more usually they have an antivirus, antispam, antispyware, firewall and parental control. Suites are good if you just want all in one security, in one download. Usually though with all the features that a suite has your bound to end up with somethings that just doesn't work as well as others for example I have yet to see a antispam that came with a suite work well. You can also get an antivirus and firewall package together in some cases.
