Re: WITCHER FANS, SOMETHING NEW
Hi Coastie... I gave up on it after trying in vain to install the upgrade. I was a good way into the game, then I had to totally uninstall the whole thing (Witcher support instructions)... then after that didn't work, they wanted me to uninstall (not disable) all antivirus, anti-malware and firewall programs, and any programs which create virtual drives (I use Alcohol 120% which uses virtual drives to circumvent using the game disk). Since after doing all of that, I would also have to access the Internet (totally unprotected) to verify the legality of my copy of The Witcher, my thought was "screw you", so it now sits with a pile of other unused games. Now I'm playing Diablo 2, which isn't nearly as interesting.

I do agree though about The Witcher... when you get it going. it is a really good game... but it can be tough.

Re: WITCHER FANS, SOMETHING NEW
Witcher fans do not need to rejoice. The Enhanced Version of The Witcher was released for the PC some time ago. It is indeed an awesome game, and I am very impressed with this developer. Unlike many other game developers out there, CD Projekt Red values the PC Gamer first, consoles are not as important. I hate consoles. They are far less versatile than a PC, giving you so much less of a bang for your buck. So what if it's much more difficult to play a PC game in the living room. Most PC gaming rigs (like mine) have large displays and incredible sound systems. Furthermore, you can upgrade them yourself when more demanding games come out, instead of shelling out another half a grand for the next console version.

Re: WITCHER FANS, SOMETHING NEW
Since the 1.4 enhanced version upgrade didn't work for me, I considered buying the enhanced version DVD, but after doing some research, changed my mind. The only thing I don't like about CD Projekt's The Witcher (Enhanced Version) software is that it also installs a protection system (Tages + SolidShield) on one's hard drive, and loads 3rd party DRM drivers on boot up, but I'm not certain if these are disabled after the install is validated. The DRM protection looks for any disk emulation software installed on the system (amongst other things), and if detected, may cause a completely legal Witcher install to be flagged as illegal, in turn, causing certain quest dependant NPCs in the game not to show up, which ultimately means that the player cannot successfully complete the game. Apparently, some SCSI and SATA drivers also cause the DRM system to flag the install as invalid. Since I use Alcohol 120% (a completely legal program), which creates virtual drives on my system, I would be hesitant to install The Witcher enhanced version on my system. Too bad.

Re: WITCHER FANS, SOMETHING NEW
Hi Coastie... The Tages copy protection was on the original DVD, which I found out when I tried to copy it to a virtual disk using Alcohol 120%. From what I can gather, it was removed, as was the necessity for using the DVD, if the 1.4 free enhanced edition upgrade was used (the one I couldn't install). The new enhanced edition DVD unfortunately uses Tages 5.5.2.6 on both the US and UK editions. Russian editions use StarForce copy protection.
