Ok, Flash, I'm going to try downloading Adobe v9 again, from the new FileHippo link you provided.

Wish me luck.

Re: Forum upload not working with new Adobe Flash Player V.10
SUCCESS!!!!! http://forums.pcworld.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/7421/PB%2Cnot%2Cdancemoves.gif wooo hoooo!!!

Wow, that link was perfect Flash, it downloaded v9 with no problems. It did leave the Adobe AIR, but not the Adobe.com nor the GetPlus... I think that maybe the last two were probably appropriate/specific for Your IE8 OS, but not for my IE7 OS.

So, here's what it looks like in my Programs Folder:

http://forums.pcworld.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/7419/MySnip%2C4Flash%2CSUCCESSFUL%2CAdobe9install.JPG

Pretty nice! :^0

Ok, now take a look at what shows up on my Desktop:

MySnip,4Flash,SUCCESSFUL,Adobe9,2leftovers.JPG

That first folder on the left is the Adobe Reader Install folder I talked about in my post yesterday, the one that gave me the Black screen after I deleted it.

The graphic below it is the Adobe Reader 9.0 Installer.

Do you think that I would be able to safely delete these two? and hopefully there'll be NO black screen....?

Now I'm up to date, so thanks again, Flash! :x

Re: Forum upload not working with new Adobe Flash Player V.10

Hey sweetie!!

Yes, have been busy at work with a possible strike on next Wednesday. So , yeah , horrible! 2100 employees on the bricks.

OK, to get to your issue. If you can, bring up your Program Files Folder ( Go to > Computer , double click on the C:\ Drive and then,

Double Click on the Program Files to bring up the folder ) . Now, Drag & Drop that Adobe File that's on your Desktop and

drop it in the Program Files Folder and don't touch it again. You got a Black Screen because you deleted the install folder

which contains the drivers to run Adobe. You must have Installed to your Desktop instead of Program Files.

Next , you can safely Delete the Installer. For the other one , I believe this is the short cut to Adobe Application. Again you

can just Drag & Drop in Documents Folder and this will be your short cut for Adobe.

The way I do it Adama , is , I made a Folder for All my short cuts and one for All my Tools and keep them in
Documents. They are out of the way and don't blemish my desktop with all kinds of icons.

So , this will be pretty easy . All you do is Drag & Drop out of the way, right?

Now, we will have to update Java as they again came out with a new version 1.6 0.11 .

Didn't Spirit talk about JavaRa in one of his posts? Well we will be using it. I will give the

step by step on how to run this little .exe on another post.

Re: Forum upload not working with new Adobe Flash Player V.10

http://forums.pcworld.com/images/emoticons/grin.gif Hi Flash & Adama :

"JavaRa" is PRIMARILY used to uninstall MULTIPLE "old" versions of Java, and to use

this program, which Adama probably does not need because she is most likely up-to-

date having ONLY One Java version on her computer, download from http://raproducts.org/ .
Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.

Accept any prompts.
Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.

Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

Re: Forum upload not working with new Adobe Flash Player V.10
Hi Flash,

Thanks for the detailed info. I went ahead and put the first folder in the Program Files folder you suggested.

The other one I just put it in a folder I have on my Desktop called Unused Desktop Icons, where I have stored away some shortcuts that I don't know what to do with. That way it's not cluttering up my desktop. I don't know if deleting it now would create more problems with the new Adobe v9, so I think I'll just let it be.

< gun shy > :)

So, from your post I'm guessing that from now on, instead of downloading software to my Desktop I'm supposed to download them to the C\ drive? ?:|

re: JavaRa - Thanks for the heads-up, but I don't really need a Java utility that uninstalls old versions of Java, since I only have one.

I'm going to reply to SW next.

Thanks so much, Flash! :^0 :x

Hi SW,

Thanks for the info on JavaRa. But, it's like you said, I don't really need the JavaRa because I only have one version of Java.

I'm going to go to their website to find the latest version.

Thanks for your help.

Hey sweetie!!

OK, Adama , you can always download to your desktop (some times it's better) but, it's

the installation place that you have to be careful with. Most if not all programs will

install to : C:\ Program Files \ the name of the program \ . This will place the program

in the Program Files Folder on your C;\ Drive. The C drive is where all of your programs

are. Some go to Program Files, others like drivers, would go to "SWSetup" and so on.

For all intent and purposes the C:\ drive is your Hard Drive . You also have the D:\ Drive

which would be the Recovery Partition. But , all files and folders are on your hard Drive.

So the Hard drive would contain the C:\ partition and the D:\ partition. The total of these two

partition would equal to the amount of Hard Drive space on your Computer.

Example: If your Hard Drive is a 100 Gigabyte HDD then, the amount of the C:\ Drive +

the amount of the D:\ Drive should equal to 100 Gigabytes or close to it. In other words

the total amount of space on your HDD that was specified by the manufacturer when

you bought the notebook.

What I suspect happened is that the program installed the files on your desktop instead

of the Program Files Folder which would read like this C:\ Desktop \ the name of the program \ ,

in this case Adobe, where it should have read C:\ Program Files \ Adobe \ .

When you install a program , at one point in the installation they will ask where to install the program.

There is usually a rectangular box which reads Install in :

C:\ Drive \ Program Files \ name of the program \ | Browse |.

The "Browse" gives you the opportunity to choose a different location to install the program . Your's might have

been selected to install to your desktop. So, when you deleted that File you also deleted Adobe

which is needed to run certain programs.

OK sweetie , this is as clear as I can be. If you have any other questions I'll be around.

Re: Forum upload not working with new Adobe Flash Player V.10

Hi Flashorn,

Yes, I agree with everything you said and I understand what you're talking about.

I have the habit of downloading things to my Desktop because that's where I download my brushes, fonts, and other things that I need to make my graphics.

I just thought that downloading Adobe to the Desktop would be a no-brainer. So from now on, I'll know better.

Thanks again, m'dear. :)

Re: Forum upload not working with new Adobe Flash Player V.10

Hey Tech!!

OK, first of all I wasn't explaining so much where to download

but, where to "Install" a program that you have downloaded. Yes,

Tech , you can use the Save or Run when you download a program

But, this was not my intention to explain which one to choose.

I Always choose to Save my downloads. IF you have other programs

running in the background and you choose to Run instead of Save

then you are looking for trouble. Some of the files that are Busy running the

other programs might be needed for the installation of the program

that you want to install by choosing to Run. Then you get a Failed Installation.

" If I choose RUN .....During the installation, WDs will ask where do I
want to install..? ( Even If, It 's already picked out the RIGHT
location for it) ...Why..ASK...?"

OK, Tech , Windows will Always ask to choose the Location of the installation. This is done because

you might have a program that Runs better when installed on C:\ directly.

Case in point : WinBubble 1.76 , has to be installed Directly on the C:\ .

But, when you start the installation of WinBubble , Windows has already decided that

you should install in C:\ Program Files \ WinBubble \. This is Wrong!!!! . That's why there is a Browse at the

end of where you want to install.

MediaMonkey 4.jpg

The pic is just an example. This is to show the BROWSE at the end of the box.

So, to install WinBubble correctly , I would have to change the location of the install

which would be C:\ WinBubble\ . This is the only way this program works. This is why

Windows asks where to install the programs.

OK Tech , I hope I explained it better this time.

Re: Forum upload not working with new Adobe Flash Player V.10

Hi Flashorn,

I appreciate what you're trying to say, but if Windows decides to install WinBubble in the Program Files, how is anybody to know that that is the wrong place to install it?
