Black screen, computer won't boot up, please help

I have a:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Motherboard: Abit UL8 Uli M1689 Athlon 64(FX)
RAM: 2GB DRR DIMM
Graphics Card: PNY Verto GeForce 6600 GT, (128 MB) AGP
Power Supply: 350W

Hello, this evening I installed windows update then I restarted my pc like i always do after an update. But it never booted up, instead all i got was a black screen. So i decided to open my computer and checked if anything was wrong, but it all looked perfect. I then switched on my pc but again all i got was a black screen, then the moniter went to standby and the led light on my computer stayed yellow. After I thought maybe if i let it cool down for 5mins it will work again, but when i pressed the power button it wouldn't switch on at all. At this point i thought maybe it was my power supply which was the problem, luckly i had another one, so i replaced the power supply with my other one, which is a JSP Sprite 500w. This time the pc switched on but still a black screen and yellow led light. So i decided to take out the motherboard battery and clear CMOS, but still the same result.

Can someone please help me on what my situation could be?

If this helps I installed my new 19" widescreen monitor and wireless keyboard & mouse which i got this morning, but now it's evening time, haven't had one problem untill now...don't really think that's the problem.

Please and thank you..:(

Have you tried another graphics card? If you're getting no signal to your monitor, then your graphics card might have died on you.

Certainly suspect the video card.
The video Bios has to start first and the then the CPU BIOS. If the video card doesn't start, the Cpu won't either.

I know it sounds dumb, but did you try testing the voltage in the power socket that your system is plugged in to? If you don't have a power line tester, plug some other power hungry piece of electronic equipment into that socket, and see if it has any problems. Other than that, a no beep, no startup could mean that your CPU is fried.

Hello, im having the exact same issues. Last week i was playing, and i noticed a aroma coming from mu computer, more specificly the psu. I shut down, blew everything out. Thne booted back up, it lasted 5 mins. The lil soda can thingy on the psu board itself came off, it had "105C" written on it. Musta got really hot.

oredered and replaced with a 480W psu. I had a 450W before. I went with the cheapest one i could find. im getting the same exact problem as the original poster. I dont even get the processor "ok" beeps. Not even my HD spins up. But my CD rom lights up, i do have lights on my motherboard, liek the ram, and agp slot. Im going to see if a friend can run my card in his machine.

If my cpu, and or ram was fried. Would i not get the code beeps from the system speaker?

my specs

p4 2.8ghz
7800 gs AGP
1GB RAM
Shuttle AB60R
SB live 24bit
80GB HD

Not very specific! I have been with a game for a week now, the house is spotless, the GF is happy, but i am hurting. If my friends pooter can run my card, then that should tell me that my motherboard, cpu is gone right? Coz when my psu went, i was in the middle of BF2, and it happend like one of my kids just up and pressed the power button, or a power outage. When my psu went could it have taken everything else with?

Thanks guys, sorry for the mispells. on my dads laptop.

Dustin

Funny Ichipod should mention, "If this helps I installed my new 19" widescreen monitor and wireless keyboard & mouse which i got this morning, but now it's evening time, haven't had one problem untill now...don't really think that's the problem."

My Dell Precision 530 XEON Windows 2000 PC was hooked up to a new 20" widescreen monitor. I used it for an hour or so, then decided to improve the text legibility by going to the larger text size. The screen immediately went black. I re-started and only got a tinny beep-beep-beep noise, while the screen gave me the NO SIGNAL message. What did I do? I'm thinking I should try to reboot from the OS CD. Any ideas?

RAM
It may be your RAM.
I have a UL8 motherboard and if I use my 3200 drr it will do nothing. No signal to the monitor or anything. If I take those out and use my two ddr400 chips it boots up just fine.

I have the same problem as the original poster. I have been building my own machines since 1998. Over the years, I have worked through many hardware and software problems, but nothing like this. I have been running Vista successfully for about a month now. My system is over 3 years old. Other than installing Vista, the only change I have made recently is adding a Gigabyte 7600gs graphics card. I am not a gamer (anymore), but recently installed Lego Star Wars to test out my new card. The program installed and started fine, but I quickly exited to play later. I hit Windows+L (switch user) and walked away while the machine was still switching screens. When I returned, the screen was black, the CD rom lights were on steady, and the machine did not respond to anything (not even the restart button). I turned off, waited and turned back on again, but it did not post. There was no beep, no hard drive spin, just steady lights (no blinking) and fans.

My initial diagnosis was wrong. I thought the new graphics card killed my PSU because it was finally asked to do 3D stuff. It is the first card I have ever had that requires its own power connector. I have now tried almost everything I can think of, with no success. I replaced the 380W PSU with a new 500W Antec PSU. I then went back to my old graphics card and I tried removing all but one memory stick to see if one of them would let me post. No dice. The result is always the same

I guess that means I may have a fried mobo or cpu or could it be something else? I don't overclock and my case is always cool. I just can't see how I might have fried something, just by running Lego Star Wars for 60 seconds. Any ideas?

Here is my system info:

Intel P4 2.6 GHz with Hyperthreading
Gigabyte GA-8KNXP - mobo
Gigabyte 7600GS AGP (256MB)
1.5GB DDR RAM
Antec Earth Watts 500W
3 hard drives, 1 DVD, 1 CDRW

Hi all.

In a search this is the first time I've seen anything similar to the problem I'm having with a Dell Precision 360 desktop.

Heres the outline:

The computers are 3 years old. Fresh install from Dell CD-ROM. The first one was working just fine for a while. Then it started going to the blank screen. No HD access light, no response to keyboard/mouse, powerlight/fans still on running. Restarted the computer and it worked fine. After a week or so restarting the computer no longer worked. It would boot to this blank screen. No video signal.

Here's what I've tried:

First I wanted to check and make sure that the parts in the computer were working properly. Tried replacing the video card. no go... Pulled the RAM to see if I would get an error code and didn't get any beeps at all. My first guess was it must be the PSU. So I bought a new one. I couldn't install it properly thanks to Dells POS "custom fabricated" cases. Had to run the computer with the case open. Same thing when I press the power button: no video signal, no post beep(s), power LED turns on and fans are running.

I'm basically to the same point someone else was in the thread. I'm guessing it's either the MB or the CPU.

Well heres the kicker. There are some more of these Dells around we got 4~5 of them. It's just started showing the same symptoms as the original computer. Occasionally loses video signal with the power light still on and fans running. We're guessing it will end up the same way as the first one, but it hasn't yet. Since this computer is exactly the same as the last one (except the video card) I decided to run the dell diagnostics for the system board and CPU and more for the heck of it. All tests passed with no errors.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,

Nails

Hello

Im having a very saimilar if not, exact sounding problem.

First began to happen one day when trying to launch into Battlefield 2142 and press Play Online Now while it was loading into the game visual feed totaly cutted out suddenly and I had to turn off the computer. Checking if the moniter cords it all seemed in place and snug. On second attempt I tried loading it through the Play BF1242 Now on the desk top and then the same thing happened again, no visual feed, my moniters LED was orange symbolizing it.

Now, I am having a problem with my computer booting up at all. What I mean is that when I press my computer's power button, the power comes on but there is no bios beep and there is no visual display what so ever then moniters LED is orange meaning there is no visual feed. I tried many things such as replacing the mobo, cpu, floppy, video card, hard drive, rearanged some cables, tried a new surge bar, and also another psu. But all no go, infact, when I try with another mobo it the power doesent come on what so ever. This is really really strange.

Ive had a similar problem before, in one case replacing the keyboard with naother was the answer. In the other case, I tried to have my firewire and Front Usb cable (that is on the front of my case) hooked into the mobo but by removing them the visual feed came back and so did the bios beep. However for my current case its still boggling me, if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it I'd like to hear it too.

Thanks

Seems in regards to the computer I spoke of the motherboard was the problem. Replaced it and everything is working fine now.

I've got a similar problem too, i might have some new info too..

So all this started when i bought a new case (antec very well air conditioned one), Zalman fan for the 6800gt ghx card, and 1g ddr 400 ram. I must add that i might have damaged the graphics card when installing the new fan. One screw on the old heat sink was broken, and i had to use iron saw to get it off

Anyways, all worked just fine 1st. Then i started to get crashes. It usually first crashes by forming strange patterns on screen and stucks there. Then when i reboot it, and check the heat of the gfx card, it's really low 45C, so that can't be the prbolem. I'll start playing again, and it will crash again within 20mins, this time the monitor just loses contact, goes black and the light turns orange. It doesn't give "no signal" box however. Then after this, it might either boot up just normally, or then it refuses to boot up at all. If it doesn't, I have found out that taking gfx card out, and installing it again makes it work again. Also, it can work for few days before next crash.

When the computer refuses to boot up at all, the abit kv8 gives error 25 at the screen on mobo. Code 25 means "Early PCI Initialization:-Enumerate PCI bus number.-Assign memory & I/O resource-Search for a valid VGA device & VGA BIOS, and put it into C000:0, BGA error, Change graphic cards or unplug card and plug card back in again" http://www.abit-usa.com/faq/common_ques_pop3.php.

So i thought i had borken mine gfx card. Then i started to think what else i did when i installed new parts. It came to my mind, that the auto setting found mine memory's as ddr300, while they were ddr400. I had manually put the speed on 400, so i swithced it to "auto 300" now. Let's see how it will work out, I am quite sure this is the solution in my case because i also managed to find other forum post's, where code 25 had meant faulty RAM. There's the links for those too: http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?t=87888 http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?t=104805.

Apologies for such a bad spelling, but english ain't mine natve language and i am in a hurry :) hope that helped someone, or gave you new leads to go on.

I'll keep you informed if changing the ram speed fixed my problem, time will show.
