If anyone has Windows 98 or ME, here's a link to a PC World forum thread in which I found the solution for those operating systems:

On the Microsoft Web site, the problem is discussed for various other operating systems and they do a good job of making it look very complicated (registry editing, etc.) for those that will not have a patch/update issued. If you're using an older Windows OS such as 98/ME, they aren't even mentioned.

But Microsoft has a simple solution -- you just won't discover how easy the solution is by visiting there (which I found out).
