Where's Comodo Personal Firewall? How could you leave out the top ranked free firewall? After about three serious days surfing the net whenever I had a little spare time to see what free security software was available (besides the other good ones you show), I can't believe you left out one of the best ones! Slackers! (Just kidding.) You guys have compiled a pretty decent list of some of the best "Freebies" available. Keep up the good work. More! More! Soon! Soon!

FreshUI
Seemed like a great program, but....

I've tries 5-6 times since yesterday to get a registration code. I register (name and e-mail) for the free reg codes, and the site says I'll get two e-mails in about 3 minutes. NADA. :( This kind if thing makes me worry about the supplier really being a e-mail harvester. Not that I'm saying that it is, but you just can't help think. :? I also sent an e-mail to their support address...nothing.

How can SMAC be a freebie ?
How can SMAC be a freebie ? The company KLC Consulting ( http://www.klcconsulting.net/smac/#Download ) sells the software for $19.99 for the standard edition and $1499 fir enterprice edition. A true freebie which does the same job SMAC does is Technitium MAC Address Changer TMACv4.5 available at http://tmac.technitium.com . Not only TMAC changes MAC address, it can change IP,DNS, Gateway, DHCP config etc simultaneously. So logically, it deserves to be listed.

Don't try and buy this product. You must have a non-free email address in order to access the other editions. I think this leaves out a large portion of the American Public. The customer service rep said there is no way to override this.

C'mon people! When speaking about a product, please tell us what product you're talking about. Nothing is more confusing or frustrating when this kind of thing happens, especially when some of us are actually trying to make sound decsions regarding one product or another. I was looking for some concise, relevent information regarding the Comodo Firewall and after reading this thread, I have no idea what any of you are talking about!!

ARGHHHHHH!!!

Michael,
check the "Post subject:" line... you'll see that the original, your reply, and now mine, all say FreshUI.

FWIW... I've been using Comodo for a few months and think it's great. I was a fan of Norton until 2003, then preferred McAfee, and the last year, I've been bouncing around using trials and freebies... Comodo has been my favorite of the free ones.

I enjoyed this article. For the desktop search tools, I was intrigued that you didn't mention X1. I have been using it for the past few years and it is terrific. It does not index the whole world, but its indexing and presentation for the hard drive is unparalleled. For instance, it finds the searched text and displays it on the right.

I installed Google Desktop, and after 36 hours, it is still indexing. It doesn't appear to be as efficient as I would expect.

Best wishes,
Mitchell

I agree Picasa is a good free product. Google appears to be supporting it well. I wrote an article on minimum requirements for free photo editing software and Picasa met them all.
