Updating Office 2003 Pro to Office 2007

Does anyone know if there are any issues in updating Office 2003 Professional to any version of Office 2007 that does not have the Access 2007? Will Access 2003 still work?

Hi Reynoldson. As far as I know, no there are no issues. I have Office 2007 but I kept FrontPage 2003. I believe each version of Office 2007 will allow you pick and choose what application you want to install. If you currently have Office 2003, anything you select to install from 2007 will overwrite the 2003 version. If your Office 2007 does not have Access, the Access from 2003 will remain intact.

Vista and the Microsoft Office 2007 are designed for puerile, gum-chewing, gum-popping teenies and 20-somethings who are more interested in thoughtless and undisciplined blogging, posting to MySpace and generally doing little substantive.

None of those new products are for serious business. We have started scraping Vista off the two relatively new HP Pavilions and installing Office 2003. Were pulling the trial Office 2007 versions and replacing them with Office 2003 as well. Based on the advice of an incompetent consultant, we bought copies of Outlook 2007 and its junk. Were trying to figure out how to recoup our costs.

This move to Vista and these new products are an insult to the intelligence of serious business people and the lack of options by HP, Microsoft and others (Dell, noted, but I wont deal with anyone crawling in bed with Wal-Mart).

Hi newsguygeorge. First off, wow, that had to be without a doubt one of the most slanted posts I have seen in a while... LOL We all have our opinions but just because your organization had a bad experience with 2007, that doesn't mean it is worthless. You are somewhat correct that 2007 is geared more towards the new generation of business men and women but it is NOT "designed for puerile, gum-chewing, gum-popping teenies and 20-somethings who are more interested in thoughtless and undisciplined blogging, posting to MySpace and generally doing little substantive." (That still makes me laugh just reading it again) I use 2007 and I do see things within it that 2003 would be better suited but overall, it is a very good suite of programs.

Secondly, reynoldson asked about issues upgrading to 2007 from 2003; not opinions about 2007. Please, if you are going to post, make it relevant to the subject.

Absolutely. I have it now. The version I have didn't have FrontPage so I upgraded everything else except FrontPage 2003. I even get the updates for Office 2003 AND Office 2007.

First, I run a newspaper that calls them as we see them.

Second, my remarks werent slanted because I experienced the software.

Third, OK, if no opinions, here are some specifics:

The Word macros, which worked in Word and Outlook, using Word, didnt convert over. Youll have to re-enter all your macros.

If youre working with design or layout software, youll have to me very careful to maintain the Word format instead of the newer format.

Youll have to adjust to all new toolbars, and they are pretty different. Oh, unless you want to drop another $30 for an add-in that makes the 07 toolbars look like 03 again. Lets see, that brings the costs to what? Close for $500. For that kind of money you have to buy an add-on?

The packages for 2007 suites make no logical sense for someone who wants a basic system. Please show me the name of an 07 suite that had simply Word, Excel, Access and Outlook. No, they load it up with the other crap you dont need.

Those things are just Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer sticking a middle finger right in your eye.

You can try to mitigate the insult of calling me slanted with a smiley emoticon and an LOL, but youd have been more accurate to have called me angry angry at big corporations taking advantage of consumers.

Okay, before this gets completely off of the original post, let me just say that my comments were not meant to insult and if you took it that way, my apologizes.

Secondly, to each their own. Yes, you have made some valid points but that still does not warrant the post that you provided. All in all, everything goes back to my final statement...the original posters asked about upgrading to 2007; not opinions. To be very honest, if this person is posting something about upgrading, more than likely he or she already made up his or her mind already. It is not up to any one person on here to try and change it.

You and I can go back and forth on this all evening but the fact remains that we can just agree to disagree and call it a day. The fact remains that reynoldson is capable of deciding for himself or herself as to whether or not 2007 is a good suite of applications.
