Need Help Buying PC

Ok, I'm looking to buy a new pc, and I am not very "informed" on computer hardware. I was hoping I could list what I plan to do and get a few different pc's that would handle my needs.
All I'm really looking to do is surf the net, manage digital photography, manage my music collection, hook-up to a tv for watching movies, and lastly gaming. Nothing too outrageous, just something that can handle new games without slow down and all that jazz. I currently have a Dell and I have no complaints about it, but I've just outgrown it i guess. I've had several people tell me how much they hate Dell, so I just wanted the opinions of people who really know what they're talking about. I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried looking at media center PC's??? those are very good for TV to PC, movies, and as a plus you can play your PC stuff on your Computer!! but for gaming, you need generally a good graphics card. Here's a decent one

Hope this helps out a little bit!! but for gaming, this video card is a little shaky for the future. But you could always sell the video card inside and buy a new one, or even have someone build a custom PC, but this link should guide you in a generally good direction.

Take a look around the forum for other threads on Cyber Power PC, people haven't had a very good time with them. I would recommend staying away from that company.

Yea, I did hear mixed things about them, but the specs on that PC were pretty nice. I built mine on my own, and had few problems with it. ABS also makes pretty good computers, but not a media center one, their website is www.abs.com

I have an HP m7690y Media Center. The current version is the m8010y which has some upgrades and a new all gloss black case (mine is silver). I really like it, yes the video card (nVidida 7300LE) weak, but the machine is now almost 6 months old, and in computer age, that is middled aged, expecially considering the Vista changes. Vista runs fine.

I was just on the HP website and they have a new model, d4890y which has the other media center case that takes the smaller Personal Media Drive and all the doors are horizontal. Mine has the two vertical doors, one for the front panel connections and the other for the larger PMD. This new model offers the nVidal 8800GTS video card as an option! Granted, its a $500 upgrade, but then it does show that HP is paying attention to the market.

HP also now offers the 64bit Vista Ultimate as a pre-install and 4GB of memory. I also just over the weekend noticed on their high end dv9500t laptop that they offered the nVidia 8400M GS and 8600M GS video cards with 383MB and 511MB memory respectively. (Wierd memory numbers, I wonder where the missing MB went).

One thing I like is that all the components, except the case are standard off the shelf. Even the mobo is an ASUStec P5 series, although Belarc Advisor reports it as a Broadwater. Expandable and upgradable with standard parts!

For serious gamers, they redirect to the VooDoo PC website. I know nothing about them, and do not know what the HP/Voodoo connection is.

Yes, rgreen, This does look like a good system, and HP is somewhat respectable. But just to answer your question, Voodoo is for people that want ultimate performance at an ultimate price (at least 4,000 dollars, which i'm guessing you don't want for your build) so check out HP, they may have something good.
