they all serve different purposes. The first thing I do is install a firewall, that basically blocks things coming in and malware from contacting things outside of your computer. It's pretty much what it sounds like; a wall that protects you from the incoming attacks and anything inside getting out. Anti-spyware and Anti-virus scanners sweep the files on your computer looking for files that may damage your computer. All are recommended, there are plenty of free effective programs here are some links for you to look over:

Sounds like your Internet Service Provider ( who is it ? ) is trying to
"entangle" you, so you will be less likely to switch to another .
It is best to use an Internet Service Provider ONLY for connecting to the
Internet and possibly email Service; it is NOT wise to use the other
"Services" they "offer", since they are usually "stripped" down versions
offered by the Original Vender .

It is impossible to "remove" the Windows Firewall, since it is part of the
Windows Operating System . When one get a 3rd party firewall, such as
Zone Alarm, Sygate, Sunbelt Kerio, the practise is to then "disable" the
"Windows Firewall" since it is unwise to have 2 Firewalls working on the
same computer at the same time . The Windows Firewall is NOT that good;
you should continue looking for a better one .
