Results
Superanti-spyware found 52 items it got rid of. Rootkit found 233 discrepancies but now I am unsure how to proceed with that one. The other program gave me an error message of invalid path and wouldn't scan. I downloaded it several times.

Okay. Well, regarding the Rootkit scan, can you take a screen shot of the report that was generated and send it to me via a PM. I will try and find a forum that specializes in Rootkit Removals.

Regarding Dr. Web Cure It, what is the exact error message and did you get the error message when you tried to download it or when you tried to install it?

It says "invalid virus base or path to virus base". It will download, run, then when I select 'start' that message popps up. Following that, a screen asking if I want to buy shows up.

Okay, that is a new one to me. The secondary window that comes up is nothing. You can always X out of that.

Well, let's concentrate on what you do have. Please send me that screenshot via PM and in the meantime, I will try to find you a forum that specializes in Rootkit removal.

First, I am unsure of how to do a screen shot so under options on rootkit I selected save. Now the program is not repsonding. That means I have to scan again, correct?

When you initially ran the scan, did you select save at that point?

If the system hung for any reason, yes, go ahead and and scan again. Once the scan is complete, click "Save..." and save the report as a .txt file to your Desktop. At that point, you can email me the .txt file. I am going to send you my direct email address. Once you get it, email me the .txt file you saved on your Desktop. I will reply back and let you know I got it.

Rootkit Revealer
{size:18px}[/size:896ff53792]:D Hi rtptah :

233 Discrepancies found by Rootkit Revealer is an extremely large number;
I suspect you did NOT run the Scan according to THEIR Guidelines at the
RootkitRevealer Usage Forums at http://forum.sysinternals.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=15 , particularly their 1st 4 Threads . Follow the Guidelines in those
Threads and IF the resultant Scan has more than 8 "Discrepanies", save
the Report and post it in their Rootkitrevealer Logs Forum at
http://forum.sysinternals.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=17 . There are many
Volunteer Experts on those Forums to assist you ; THEY are the Experts
when it comes to the RootkitRevealer program ..

As far as Rootkit Removal is concerned, the Best are at

I ran the scan again and recieved 5 errors. Then, I got the same lock up problem when I attempted to save and send the results to you. It saved an empty file. I will look at the rootkit site and I will also attempt to run the scan again today.

AOL
{size:18px}[/size:fb3c0e8fe2]:D Hi Quarkstar :

Have you asked your Question(s) on the AOL Support Forums !?
You can access them through your AOL GUI ; I did some advising on
their Security Forum the last month of the 6 months I had them .
When I was there for that 1 month I met several very knowledgeable
people who should be able to help you .
