Multiple Anti-virus and Spyware remover?

Ok, so I just learned that having more than 1 firewall can lead to problems and is suggested not to do so. Then I come up with this question, what about having more than 1 anti-virus and spyware removers? Is that good or will you still have issues having more than 1 of those?

More than one *Anti-virus *program is not recommeded because they conflict with each other.
You can have an *Anti-virus *and an *Anti-spyware *program.

Hi all. I have to add my two cents on this one. You can have as many applications as you want. However, it is not good to have more than one REAL-TIME application at one time.

For example, I have five anti-spyware, three anti-virus, and two malware applications. However, only one of each has real-time control over my computer.

 Sure. I have a "two-tier" system:

First Tier:

  • Zone Alarm Pro - Firewall and automatic daily Anti-Spyware scan
  • AVG Free - Automatic Daily Anti-Virus scan
  • CCleaner - Manual Weekly Privacy Data Eraser (Cache Cleaner, Temporary Internet Files Remover, etc.)
  • ATF Cleaner - Manual Weekly Privacy Data Eraser (works best in Safe Mode but works fine in Normal Mode
  • SpywareBlaster - Internet Browser protection for both Mozilla Firefox and Internet Eplorer
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Manual Weekly Spyware Protection
  • Ad-Adware SE Plus - Manual Weekly Anti-Spyware Protection (Could be automatic but choose not to)
  • AVG Anti-Spyware - Manual Weekly Anti-Spyware Protection (This used to be Ewido)
  • XoftSpy SE - Manual Weekly Anti-Virus Protection
  • Error Nuker - Manual Weekly Registry and Varous other "Error" causing agents checks

Second Tier - Only Used If I Run Into a Problem

  • Dr. Web Cure-It - Manual Anti-Virus Protection
  • RootkitRevealer - Manual Rootkit Revealer
  • SuperAntiSpyware - Manual Anti-Spyware Protection

Well, to be very honest, I think all but Zone Alarm Pro is are free. It has been so long since I have installed them I do not know which are pay for use and which are free.

All of the Second Tier are free. Yeah, all of them except ZA were free. Please do a search to confirm but I think they are all free, except ZA. Even the free version of ZA is good, as we talked about previously.

***CORRECTION***

XoftSpy SE is $30
Ad Adware SE Plus has been replaced with Ad Aware 2007 by Lavasoft which is not free. Pro is $40 Plus is $27.

Streek. I believe you and I talked about this in another post already. Having multiple firewalls can lead to conflicts. Please refer to the link that Lilxkid gave you or this thread.

Excellent choices. Make sure you disable the Windows Firewall. Also, in the Anti-Spyware section, you mean AVG Anti-Spyware, right?
