Missing DVD Rom Drive!!

Hi there.

Neeed some help!

I recently decided to format my PC the other day. Everything was going fine, and of course once I had formatted Windows XP I then proceeded to install the the drivers, software etc for my PC (As you do).

First off, I put in my Gigabyte Chipset utility CD into my DVD rom so I could install all the drivers for my LAN network, Intel USB Drivers, Audio Drivers etc etc....You know that CD that contains all of those things?

Anyway, I installed all of those things, however after that my DVD Rom drive did not show up in my computer. I also went to Admin tools and checked Devices - It did not show anything to say that I had a DVD Rom in my computer.

Anyway, I formated again and did this over and over. For some reason, once I installed all the Drivers on this CD, my DVD Rom dissapeared!

Now, I rounded it down. I then installed each Driver on the CD ONE BY ONE...and found out that once I installed the Gigabyte SATA and RAID Driver , it would no longer show the DVD ROM in my computer, and even if I put a CD in there, it would not auto play.

So basically, to sum up - After I install the Gigabyte SATA and RAID Driver, my DVD Rom no longer shows up and is no longer detected.

Any idea why this is?

Thanks.

Rocky

Hi Rocky. Try to install the DVD ROM drivers first and then the Motherboard CD. It really shouldn't matter which one you do first; however, if you have problems doing it one way, which it up.

Yes, the SATA and RAID drivers are for you HDD; however, that does not preclude the drivers from interfering with the DVD ROM.

I have an idea. You indicated that you installed the drivers for the DVD ROM before you installed the motherboard CD. Try this...install everything else BUT the SATA and RAID drivers and then go to Gigabyte's website to get the latest version of those drivers from their website.

Conversely, you could get the latest drivers for your DVD ROM from that manufacturer and install them.

This may be a stretch but when you turn on the computer, does either DVD drive light up? If not, you may not have connected it properly.

I would suggest disconnecting the drives and reconnecting them. Then restart the computer and immediately go into the BIOS section and verify that all of the drives, HDD and ODD, are present.

Both DVD drives may need firmware updates, and the MB may need a bios update.

Which Gigabyte MB is it?

Have you contacted Gigabyte about this driver conflict situation.

Are you sure the SATA drivers and Raid Drivers are XP and not Vista?

Does the operating system recognize the SATA drives properly without the driver?

Well, we also thank you for sharing the info. Thats how we all learn. Good diagnosis techniques, that's how we find out what confilcts.

I was curious if it was one of the new P35 Gigabyte motherboards, for I am considering one, although I really don't need another computer. But then we don't really need half the stuff we have.
