Looking for a laptop

Hello all,

I'm looking to buy a laptop. I'm used to using a desktop with 2.8 ghz and 1GB of RAM, with a 256 MB video card, and would like to find a laptop with comparable speed/performance.

A few features I'm looking for:
At least 2.0 Ghz core2 duo (preferably 2.2ghz)
1-2 GB RAM
Dedicated graphics card w/ at least 128 MB memory; preferably 256MB or greater
Windows Vista Ultimate (if there's a good laptop but it doesn't come with vista ultimate, this will be fine)
DVD Burner
Microsoft Office 2007 Home Office and Student (if it's cheaper to buy it seperatly I will do that)

It needs to be something moderately portable, so that when I occasionally go on long trips I can use it there. Mostly it will be used within my home, and occasionally around town, like in coffee shops. I would like around 14.4 or 15.4 inch widescreen display.

I'd rather the price not exceed $1500, but if I can get a significantly better laptop that's still under $2000 that would be OK.

Thanks,

mertz

+ Firstly you will need 1gb of ram to run vista properly , secondly stay away from vista its crap and thats the advice of two of the worlds leading pc makers , Dell and Acer, and yes i do have vista , nice box crap OS system ,do yourself a favour and get a dell laptop with XP installed and before January 2008 as microcrap intend to stop allowing XP to be installed after that date as they want everyone to switch to Vista as XP sales have increased 50% :!: , if anyone tells you Vista is good there as stable as Vista is , which incidently it is not , never seen such rubbish promoted so well , my XP pro laptop runs rings around the Vista one , but with hindsight there lies the answer , my XP pro laptop is a Toshiba and 4yrs old , my Vista is 6months and an Acer , quality 90% of the time wins thro , to compare the two in simple terms my Toshiba XP is the hare and my Acer Vista the snail ,maybe its just Acer who knows , but that said why have Dell and several other pc manufacturers gone back to XP for home users? someone in another forum on here said Vista is coming to a buisness near you soon , well not mine its junk , others might disagree and thats there perogative , but i would advise you to ask others or even someone you know who has Vista if you can have a look at it and play around with it before purchasing a laptop with it on , apollogises to those who dont know that i have bad eyesight (from looking at vista  ) for my bold, italic and black type .+

Well you can get a HP dv 9500 or
a DV 6500 for under 1500 with a decent graphics card and 2 gig of ram. The 9500 has a 17" screen and the 6500 a 15.4 " screen. Well i have been using Vista since Beta and have it on 3 machines and I love it. I have the Ultimate version. I've heard stories that people are having with buying new machines and wanting to go back to XP are having problems finding graphics card drivers for like the NVIDIA 8 series. The hardware vendors are producing drivers now for Vista. The older hardware has plenty of XP drivers but it's the Santa Rosa technology hardware that tha problems exist. What will happen if you install XP with generic drivers you could get slow speeds writing to screen and lower resolution, a lesser quality internet connection. (example I was getting a good connection on the internet with my new laptop and my 2 others were getting excellent. I downloaded the current intel drivers and wow excellent connection.
