actually i bought it on ebay from a guy that had it for only 3 months. come to find out the warrranty he said was still in effect is void when he sells the laptop. alienware will not even talk to me because im not the original purchaser. no warranty transfer like all other manufacturers. this is ludicris. so i guess i could part out the notebook. maybe get some money back.
I hate to sound harsh, but I would say that is an issue between you and the person you bought it from. Either he knew the warranty would not transfer and deceived you or he assumed it would transfer. In either case, you assumed the warranty would transfer. I would say that if he knew the warranty would not transfer, then you both share the "blame", but probably him more than you, even if you should not assume things. If he did not know, then you again share the blame, but one could argue maybe you more than he.
Point is that it is not Alienware's fault. It is not that much different if you bought a Ford Focus and then wanted to tow a fifth wheel trailer with it (OK, so this example is MUCH more obvious then your situation). Point is that it is not Alienware's fault that you bought computer assuming the warranty would transfer when their policy was already stated that it would not. In other words, it is not Alienware's fault that you did not do your homework (or that maybe the seller might have deceived you).
Sorry if that was harsh.
Now, whether their customer service is good or not is potentially a whole other issue. They could be in the right but still have crappy customer service. Or they could be in the right and have good customer service, but you just don't like the answer and thus consider it bad customer service. I dunno.
[soapbox] Backup good...no backup bad!! [/soap box]
