Hunting down memory

Ok I finally got off my butt and opened my case to check the exact memory I have. Then I went searching on the net for the exact match and am having trouble finding it.

Here is what I have exactly:
Corsair CM2X1024-6400
5-5-5-12
XMS6405 V 5.1

Now I found it on newegg but it was a 1gig chip and I am looking for two 512chips so I can take advantage of the duel channel. I currently have two 1 gig chips and am looking to add one more gig for a total of 3gig's.

Any one know where I might be able to find another GIG (2x512) of this exact model??

I searched several sites but have had no luck on the 1GIG (2x512)

Thanks in advance

You may have to change the model if the size is part of the model, I think. I'd likely go to crucial.com and look up what they say as they should have the tool that will be compatible that would be how I'd go about finding the sticks you want.

I was suggesting that you could try to use Crucial's site to try to find compatible memory, which may or may not be close enough to what you want.

well not really, you don't really get errors unless you installed it wrong so i would just follow crucial to avoid hassling lol

Hi Arther. I believe you may be taking that advice too literally. In my opinion, you should not deviate from the motherboard manufacturer's recommended memory. HOWEVER, you do not necessarily have to stick with the same manufacturer. You do not have to stick with Corsair but it is recommended to stay within the parameters of the motherboard.

That being said, the specs you provided of the memory doesn't really tell much. I just looked at your signature. Is everything current within your signature? If so, you can get any manufacturer's memory that fall inline with the memory specs in your signature. You could also take one of the chips out and take it to the local computer supply store to compare.

If your signature is not current, can you provide either:
  • The manufacturer and model of your computer (if manufactured computer)
OR
  • The manufacturer and model of the motherboard (if custom computer)

Memory Found
Arther - Corsair puts the memory size in their part no. So the 512MB version is CM2X512-6400. But they have updated it and the new one is CM2X512A-6400.

Here is the Single Chip from New Egg, and here is the Twin Pack from Newegg.

I was familiar with these from researching memory for an upcoming computer build. The parts are due Thursday, however, I went with Kingston because it was on the Gigabyte approved list.

Memory Timing
The timing on your CM2X1024-6400 is 5-5-5-12. It's even on the label. The timing of the CM2X512A-6400 is 5-5-5-12 and looking at the pictures on Newegg of the item shows the timing on the label.
