It sounds like either somebody near your house or something in your own home (network wise) hasn't been properly put into the safe zone in your firewall. Therefore, it's waiting for the user's approval to enter the magic pass code so that this something can share the Internet connection with you. Otherwise, without this, it's going to nag you that you have an intruder trying to connect to your home network EVERY time you boot up Windows.

How long has this been going on for? Has this just been a recent alert that has come up?

If your computer is directly connected to the Internet connection (i.e. no router) and you have a dynamic IP address, it is possible that a new IP address is causing ZoneAlarm to think it is on a new network. Since I run a router AND I use static IP address on my router, I don't have anything to "test" this with...just tossing out an idea. I believe if ZoneAlarm detects a change in the first three parts of the IP address, you get this message. If the last set of numbers in the IP address does not change, I don't believe you will get this message.

Zone Alarm tells you to completely uninstall ZA and reinstall. This is apparently a common problem.
I uninstalled it and reinstalled the free version. Life's too short.
