Spy Sweeper

Spy Sweeper

I run Spy Sweeper. It finds 13 cookies. I quarantine all 13. I immediately run Spy Sweeper again. It finds the same 13 cookies. I quarantine all 13. Within a few hours, I run Spy Sweeper a 3rd time. This time it finds 7 of the same 13 cookies, plus 2 cookies that hadn't shown up the first two times I ran the program.

Does this mean Spy Sweeper is not working properly?

Any knowledgeable suggestions or advice welcome.

Hi marquetteman, and welcome to the forum :D Since your cookies are in quarantine, have tried to delete them, and re -run a Quick Scan and see what happens? I know once in quarantine, they shouldn't show up again, but I use Window Washer (CCleaner is a very nice freebie) with Cookie Keeper, (as it runs a clean up), so I don't have alot of experience with that part of S.S.

What version are you running? I'm running 5.5.1.(build3356) I tried the newer version, 5.5.7. (build48), and had troubles, and went back to the 5.5.1.(3356)

{size:18px}[/size:90b9365fb1] Hi Mark :

"Cookies" are the 1 Item that can immediately be "Deleted" and do NOT
need or should be "Quarantined" .

Cookies are best "controlled" by using a "Cookie Manager"; I use 2
different programs on my WIN XP computer to do that .

If interested in further info, tell us the SPECIFIC Name of your
Operating System !?

Tracking cookies are everywhere when you surf the web and stuff. They won't really harm you in any way.

I'm having similar issues with Spy Sweeper since v5.5 using Firefox. Judging by the number of related posts on Mozilla's forums, a lot of Firefox users are having cookie problems with Spy Sweeper. I'm trying to resolve this through Webroot's support system, but the only suggestion they've offered so far is remove current installation, then reinstall, which doesn't help. I have the Tracking Cookie shield turned off, but it still tracks them, as it does with you. I believe that it's the main reason I keep losing my PCW forum settings, and have difficulty with some secure (HTTPS) websites. If I get any real help from Webroot that actually works, I'll post it to this thread. If not, well, my subscription ends in less than 30 days, and I won't be renewing, which is a shame, because it's an otherwise excellent product.

Spy Sweeper.
Hey Marquetteman! It seems you and lots of members including me(for a while) are having problems with this app.Yes i found the shields to be most effective, but as far as bug catcher, not effective. After running Spy Sweeper I ran Asquared free and it caught more cookies.Well after that episode i dropped Spy Sweeper. Am now running Spyware doctor amongst others. But if you want to manage your cookies and not have to worry about them, This little app.,free of course, WINPATROL will take care of them for you. UP to you to keep or delete them.

Yea, that can be annoying. I hate program's that say a free download but then require a payment to remove the threats it finds.
