Microsoft confirms Vista SP1 by Q1 2008 !

Microsoft has finally confimed that Windows Vista Service Pack 1 beta will be
released to a moderate size 10-15K audience in a few weeks. "We currently expect
to deliver SP1 during the first quarter of 2008, but we will collect customer
feedback from our upcoming beta process before setting a final date. Quality is
our most important factor when determining availability."

FULL REPORT :
What is in the Windows Vista Service Pack 1?
What improvements are there to reliability in SP1?
What languages will Windows Vista SP1 include?
What drivers are new in SP1?
How large will the Service Pack 1 be?

Hi Steve. Am I missing something or are all the questions within your post something that only Microsoft can answer? Please clarify the basis behind your post.

lilxkid24 - never jump on a Beta of anything unless you are able to dedicate a machine or at least a second isolated drive to it. To put a Beta on you primary drive on your only machine is taking a risk. Beta means that they think its fairly good, but they put it out to a large group to test to make it fail and find the problems in it. You really want the finished product when in comes out early next year.

Hi, RGreen. I get what you said to Kid about Beta and I really appreciate knowing that. But what about if this Vista SP1 is an automatic download? Do you have your downloads blocked?

That's an interesting point you brought up, Adama; however, they don't usually release Service Pack's the way you can automatically set Windows to automatically download/install Windows updates through the Update Manager. Normally you would just download the service pack from the URL. Time will only tell.

Re: Microsoft confirms Vista SP1 by Q1 2008 !
I always keep my automatic updates to notify and then i manually select what i install. I dont want anything to be put on my system without my knowledge. Even my AV updates are set to notify before download.Thats the way i like it.

Hi, Techie! Thanks for letting me know. Now, my next question is: Will people get a notification about the SP and then be given the URL to download it? Also, if it's in Beta form like RGreen says, wouldn't it be better to wait until it's not in Beta to download it?

thats was true techie for the past, but not this time . ms has already released service pack blocker tools for all the three - xp sp3 , vista sp1 & windows server 2003 sp2 ,to allow users to specifically block the service pack updates .Automatic update process will continue with other updates and leave the service pack update for those who do not want to, if these blockers are used. They dont want users to turn off automatic updates.
A better option will be to manually check for updates regularly or set to notify .

Correct. Beta means a disaster still waiting to happen.. Oops, not a disaster :D, a program still running through tests and is best to wait for an official released version, especially something from Microsoft.

Anyway.

(just an update)
the beta would change your vista installation into an evaluation copy which will stop working after around june 2008, then you will have to uninstall beta and get the new SP.
