which antivirus/spyware software to use?

I've been trying to find antivirus, antispyware, firewall, and root kit software for my computer but I don't know what to get. All I currently have is windows firewall and defender, and a trial of NOD 32. It seems that most freeware security programs are not compatible with windows vista 64 bit, and if I have to buy some then I want the best for my money. Any suggestions would be great.

Re: which antivirus/spyware software to use?
As far as I know, ALL freeware antiVIRUS programs are compatible with Vista, even 64 bit systems . The top Choices are Avast ( http://www.avast.com ), which has 7 "Providers/Shields" and EXCELLENT Support Forums ( I am one of the regular "Helpers" there ) , AVG Free, and AntiVir . Always best to read each product's "FAQ"s and Avast's is at http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-avast-4-home-professional.html .

The Best Freeware antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN program(s) are the FREE version of SUPERAntiSpyware from http://www.superantispyware.com and not
sure IF the "Trial" ver of AVG AntiSpyware, best downloaded from http://www.ewido.net is Vista compatible !?

I know of no non-beta FREE firewall for the Vista 64 bit, but the Windows firewall is a "Rules-based" one
