Re: Trend Micro Updates Security Suites

IMO, Trend Micro has yet to really impress me. Don't get me wrong, as this hypocrite uses their House Call (as a 2nd, 3rd, opinion) frequently. I do agree with Ross Wilson's assessment:

Ross Wilson,
Trend Micro's managing director for consumer products and services,
says that the days when viruses presented the greatest threat to
Internet users are over.

"Viruses are an old hat," he explains.

"Threats
have changed, malware is not what it used to be.... The very nature of
the threat has changed. A lot of it now is driven by organized crime."

"Now it's about identity theft, and the theft of sensitive information in order to make money."

Trend's
Internet Security Pro edition is subsequently targeted towards users
who bank, shop, invest, use Wi-Fi and trade sensitive information
online on a regular basis.

Happy user of Vista, XP, Firefox, IE7, of paid for, and free security software. I’m an equal opportunity user, lol

Trend Micro Updates Security Suites
If you use the Spam Email feature of PC-cillin Internet Security 2007 and Outlook is NOT your email application, please be very thorough when thinking about the upgrade to Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 or Pro.

TM's Anti-Spam Toolbar (to add Approved and Blocked Senders) is only added to Outlook and Outlook Express.

In 2007 you could also add Approved and Blocked senders using the INTERNET & EMAIL CONTROLS / SPAM EMAIL FILTER / SETTINGS option.

In the new 2008 and Pro versions the SETTINGS option has been removed and so you can only add Approved and Blocked senders if you are an Outlook or Outlook Express user.

TM Online Chat Support confirmed this "disaster" this morning.
I was told "What you can do is set the setting for the scan of the email only"

Since I use Thunderbird for my email application, I'll either go back to 2007 or install a different package.
And what makes this even more illogical is the fact that TM 2008 and Pro support the scanning of Thunderbird
