Wireless router being used by usb

Hello.

I've just bought a laptop with wireless connectivity and am now set about looking for a wireless router. However I have a problem. I currently have two computers, a desktop one and a laptop. My desktop computer does not have wireless connectivity or an ethernet connection. It is currently connected to the internet through a cable connection and using the usb connection on the modem (non wireless).

The thing I want to know is can I use a wireless router on my desktop computer (using usb connection) and use my laptop at the same time.

Thank you all in advance.

Does you DSL modem have the option to use an ethernet connection instead of the USB connection? If so, then you might be able to use BOTH the ethernet and USB connection. If you can do that, then you can have the modem connect to the desktop by way of the USB connection and the router by way of the ethernet connection.

If it is an either or situation (i.e. either USB or ethernet), then you could get either a wireless adapter or wired adapter for the desktop computer and then connect it with either ethernet or WiFi. With a desktop computer, it would be easy to add a ethernet adapter to it if you have an open slot. If you don't have an open slot, then you can add ethernet ports or a WiFi adapter by way of the USB port.
