I'm runnign the current release of their VISTA driver as found on the HP site. I tried their "generic" driver, but the duplex print function still prints in "flip" mode only. I've had several conversations with their 2nd level support personnel and they acknowledge the problem. They have been giving lip service to a FIX since early this year, with no release yet. Their support personnel have promised me all kind of incentives to wait, but my patience has run out and I'm currently looking for an "All-In-One" printer that works with VISTA. HP and Microsoft indicate that the problem is with the other. There seems to be no sincere effort to resolve the issue. I think they are hoping those of us that have the problem will just give up and go away.

I wonder if on any VISTA computer, the Integrated Duplex printing function works on ANY HP PRINTER!!!

HP sales and support personnel are generally clueless re the Duplex print problem, but if you make it their level 2 support personnel they acknowledge the problem and always indicate a new driver is due any time. I give up. I'm going to ask HP to give me my money back including the extra ink costs so I can find a printer that works!!!

I have had no problems with two sided printing either in portrait or landscape, nor in flip over or flip up duplexing. This is with the original drivers on my XP machine, and with the Universal Print Driver for Laserjets on Vista.

I also have a All-In-One Photosmart C6180 that came with a Mac disc, a Win2K/XP disc and a Vista disc. The Vista installation prints automatically, but only in the flip over position. The XP driver does not duplex automatically at all. This has an add-in duplex adapter, the two Laserjets have it built in at the factory.

I have been running the Vista Ultimate 32 with little problems that some tweaking won't fix have have very few complaints other than if you load the 64 bit version as I did when I first bought it, beware, alot of programs will not work with it, only the 32 bit version. Even Windows has some products of their own that will not work (The Finger Print Reader for one). Most companies advertise that they are Vista compatable and are, but only the 32 bit version, they don't tell you that up front until you purchase the product and it too late. Check with them first before you by. I took the 64 bit off here and had to call Microsoft to get another activation number to use the 32 bit version. It's a one time shot, if you mess up the first time, it's a pain the second time.

I hve Vista Buisiness and can't play any DVD as "a thread reaveals...ILLEGAL...NO RIGHT to technology..Windows is shutting down to protect MY PC..."! No OEM VISTA InterVideo, Legally purchased WinDVD 5,6 or MediaOne, HP Colorsmart All-in-One, Adobe Photoshop/Première software will work! Found mention of 'Windows Media Technologies' and MS site has link to E-, «to be answered in 24 hrs» 5 E-s in last week and NO RESPONSE. Attitude of 'suck-it-up, Turkey, go F... yourself' has got to stop... New, long saved-for Thinkpad T60p is less functional than my Thinkpad T20 with Windows 2000. I am contacting the WI Office of Consumer Protection and all should do the same in their state. Press for action against BOTH MFR's who hype an OS for sales and can't support it and MS whic turns a deaf ear while banking zillions...

There is a significant difference in that the Laserjet uses the same technology as in xerox copiers with toner fused to the paper, and the Officejet 7310 use small ink cartridges.

After reading your post on duplexing, I retrieved the duplex adapter that had been in my Photosmart 8250 and installed it in my Photosmart C6180 All-In-One. (They use the same adapter). I initially had the same problem.

Experimenting around with the settings I found a configuration window to apply the two sided printing module.

The path is convoluted and this is for the C6180, but see if your drivers don't have a similar setting buried somewhere.

Start -> Control Panel -> Printer (Under Hardware & Sound) -> (Double Click on Printer Icon) -> Printer -> Properties -> Device Settings Tab. At this point verify that the duplex unit shows up.

Then click on the General Tab -> Printing Preferences -> Features Tab -> Printer Services (at bottom of window) and then on the Configuration Tab. Under accessories check the box for the Automatic Two Sided Printing Module, then click the APPLY button. Close all windows and reboot. This change won't take effect without a reboot.

Let us know how it comes out.

You & I both are strong MS supporters, but is the best we can do is to "post your problems in the Windows forum one at a time"? Several of these guys have spent $500 -- $3,000. Would we put up with this type of service with a car that we bought? I think we would be calling it a "lemon" and already been asking for a replacement or a refund.

Until MS AND the software vendors get it together, there will be a whole host of unsatisfied customers waiting to buy a total package that works off the shelf. Apple, unfortunately, has come closer than some others -- but my prediction is that the first real outfit to manufacture a total, problem-free, off-the-shelf, hard & software package product will scratch a HUGE unsatisfied itch (from millions of scratchers)! MS has as good a shot at it as anyone -- and I hope that they are the first to do it -- but as we all can tell from these types of community forums -- no one has accomplished this goal yet.

You may have noticed that some of the individuals who had large signatures have since reduce the size of the images within the signatures. Now, this could be directly related to your initial concern or it could be related to Kellie asking them to reduce the size of the image. Either way, you have definitely expressed your opinion and I am sure Kellie will get back to you as soon as she can.

For those that need the 64bit version of Vista (and XP) it is fine, but for 90+% of the consumers at this point, I would stay away from them.

The 64bit platform is the future, but the number of compatible programs and drivers is limited. In several years we may all be moving toward the 64bit platform, but at this point it is just not ready for prime time. This is one of the reasons that all versions of Vista (except Ultimate) have only the 32bit version on the DVD. In fact, on the Ultimate DVD not only are there the two versions of Ultimate, but both 32bit and 64bit versions of Internet Explorer 7 as well.
