MS claim before the release of Vista was it will tune itself and will be faster even after prolonged use. I see no difference in my tests and registry is more messed up than it is in XP. indexing service is killing my hard disk. 2007 product releases were no where near production quality. take office, vista and exchange for example. none of them feature complete. I had to search through help files for weeks to tell my users where to find what in office and vista. Vista network center, explorer, office quick toolbars, redundant users in exch 2007 are few of the dumbest ideas I've ever seen. Visual Studio 2005 was buggier than the programs it compiled but touted as one of the best in its class at that time. now, VS 2008 is here, Soma Segar of MS is claiming to have cleared the debt they had left in VS 2005 for not testing the product for quality. MS, Watch your steps, or a linux or firefox will rise from your ashes. You made IT grow faster. It's your responsibility to keep that pace.

Not slower for me.

I don't get the comment that Vista is two times slower than XP. Not in my hands on my laptop. Vista takes about 10 sec longer to boot. So what! After booting, Vista is MUCH snappier than XP ever was on the same computer.

ERROR you have made a grievous ERROR !!!!! X-(
It is NOT "Windows XP Service Pack 3(SP3)" as you erroneously state in above article!
It is in fact "Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)".
I do not use Office so Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) is of no use to me at all. If it was Windows XP Service Pack 3 then it would be very useful to me.
Windows XP Service Pack 3(SP3) does not exist!
Please print a correction & apology & next time get your facts straight.

Re: Early Tests Say SP3 Speeds Windows XP
Hi Snorg. As the article states, this is the Beta version. I am not sure of the distribution of Beta SP3 but rest assured, SP3 is real and will be released. As per the article:

Early Tests Say SP3 Speeds Windows XP

The beta service pack released last week.....Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), the update scheduled to release next year

The fact that the article states, "runs Microsoft Corp.'s Office suite 10% faster than XP SP2" is only one example of the improvements of SP3 over SP2.

hello mphenterprises

Previous MS updates have given a performance boost to Windows Movie Maker 2.
I would like to see if Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) beta helps in this regard.
I assume if the author can get it then I can to.
Please post exact URL to Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) beta download here.
tnx

Re: Early Tests Say SP3 Speeds Windows XP
Hi Snorg. I do not believe this Beta version is available to the general public. After reviewing the article, "...release candidate of Windows XP SP3, the service pack recently issued to about 15,000 testers," I would assume that anyone who did not receive this directly from Microsoft downloaded it from some sort of P2P site. If this is the case, I cannot offer any help with that. Furthermore, if this Beta version was available to the public, one could download it straight from Microsoft.

I did a Google search and, sure enough, I was able to find "downloadable" versions of SP3 Beta but they were only accessible outside of Microsoft's permission. As you probably know, Beta versions are called Beta for a reason. Using beta versions of any application is done at one's own risk. Sorry, but if you truly want to test SP3, and if you were not part of the 15,000 testers, you are on your own.

:-) Not a problem. Send me a private message with your email address. More than likely, SP3 will be part of the monthly Windows Updates but I will do my best to send you a message when the expected date is released.

Re: Early Tests Say SP3 Speeds Windows XP
This could be bad news for Vista. Upgrade to Windows XP SP3 could be the best option.

Re: Early Tests Say SP3 Speeds Windows XP
From what I have read about Vista Im sticking with XP and XP SP3 will be icing on the cake.
One of the things Ive read about Vista that I dont like is Vista dont trust you, it trusts MS, but XP trusts you.
For 64 bit I would try XP 64, but I dont know enough about it to try it yet.
