Of course, theres also Paint.Net...
And MS has Groupshot (even for XP),
Photostory 3, and Windows Live Photo Gallery, which is a nice album too.
Google has Picasa...
Oh, you also forgot Photoshop... but then again that one is obvious, so I'll forgive ya.

Another good one with some awesome effects (and FREE) is PhotoFiltre. Be sure to download the add-ins! This one rivals most of the photo aps in the $50-$200 range and is incredibly easy to use. As a Photoshop user I don't use it much, but I have recommended it to several others who have sent me their undying gratitude--definitely worth checking out if you need an ap and don't have the cash!

Where's IrfanView?
This is a remarkable product that keeps getting better. It has an extremely small footprint. I use it daily for doing quick work on my pictures. Since it loads so quickly, I also made it my default program for listening to audio files and viewing video. It can handle almost any format you may find. And it is FREE!

What about Vista users - seems very little shareware / freeware is compatable with it. When will we see more?

Hi, Chicagoguy. I was just wondering the same thing as you. Are any of the above suggested photo programs compatible with Vista?

What about Image Compressor?
It's been around for some time and has many users as well (according to download.com):

Re: 14 Downloads (Including Freebies) for Your Digital Photography Tool Kit
I agree with you chicagoguy. Vista has been around for over a year. I am so sick and tired of these so called tech articles, not just PCWorld, that have all these downloads that arent for Vista. If its not Vista compatible in IMHO, it,s an antique, and not worthy of the bandwidth it takes to publish it. How about getting into the 21st century people. Windows 7 is just aroung the corner, and here we are with software being offered that dates to the 1990's.
