In need of Simple, good, fast anti-spyware/virus

Hi there!

well I am in need of some simple, good and fast anti-spyware/virus. Personally I am looking for something that won't cause me any troubles...like once AVG blocked out my interent for some reason, and I don't want anything like that. I would prefer if it is NOT real time thing (for example, that it keeps on running on the tool bar on the bottom right) so I can just run it whenver I need it. Also I need something that doesn't start when I turn on computer...I find them really annoying for some reason.

Also , of course, it has to be good and reliable. :)

I will tell you what I am currently using:

Spybot - Search & Destroy

Adaware SE Personal

SpywareBlaster

Super Anti - Spyware

and Sygate for the firewall.

Thank you!

Re: In need of Simple, good, fast anti-spyware/virus
Hi Unluky, First, I noticed you have no antivirus/trojan apps installed. I don't know why AVG blocked your access to the internet. If you had multiple firewalls installed at the time, that may have been your problem rather than AVG. As for real time protection, you should have at least one Antivirus and one spyware app actively running in the back ground for protection. I am running AVG and yes, it does upgrade on startup in the morning or when I turn on the computer for the first time. My total startup time is maybe a minute and a half with the updates and such and I don't feel that is too much time on startup. Getting back to you not wanting anything running in the background, that is where your protection lies in having an active antiviral/spyware program running in the background. It doesn't hurt the overall performance of the computer, or at least it shouldn't. If you check some other threads in this topic ( privacy & security) you will find some excellent suggestions for good free stuff. coastie65

Re: In need of Simple, good, fast anti-spyware/virus

:D Hi :

Might as well uninstall your Ad-Aware SE Personal, since Lavasoft stopped "updating" the program

on Jan 1, 2008 ; I uninstalled my version around Jan 10 . And do NOT get the "new" Ad-Aware 2007

because I have heard from Expert Malware-Fighters that Lavasoft did little, if anything, in improving

the Scanning Engine . Without an active antiVIRUS program, your computer is an accident

waiting to happen .

For anti-virus, most on this forum will tend to suggest either Avast or AVG. I have been using Avast on my newer computers. It seems to run fine and is rather unintrusive and not anywhere near the resource hog that Norton Antivirus or McAfee was.

I believe that many will recommend Super Anti-spyware for anti-spyware software.

Re: In need of Simple, good, fast anti-spyware/virus
I would get Avast, why? It has 7 real time protection shields that dont really consume much. I used avast on my old comp with 256mb ram and played maple with practically no lags, so it wouldn't affect your playing game thing. You dont have to start it on the computer, even though its highly recommended too. Start>run>msconfig>startup>untick the antivirus. And didnt you say it was avast that was blocking or avg? I remember you told me earlier like a couple months back. Anyway you quit basil or something? haven't seen you on lately

Re: In need of Simple, good, fast anti-spyware/virus
Hi Unluky, Yeah, I'll admit that seeing AVG right off the bat is pretty annoying, at least at first. I finally got used to it though and know I've got the protection. As to scanning, you can set it up so that you can do your scans at your leisure instead having it done when your doing something else. I haven't found that to be a problem with AVG, but if I'm playing a game and spysweeper starts scanning, it tends to cause a few problems. coastie65

Re: In need of Simple, good, fast anti-spyware/virus

Hi, Unluky. A lot of people on these forums like the free Anti-spyware and Anti-Virus programs.

I have Webroot SpySweeper and Trend MicroAnti Virus, which I got at BestBuy when I purchased my laptop last April. They are excellent programs, for not a lot of money. BestBuy has the SpySweeper on sale for I think $9.99, don't know about Trend MicroAV. For me, it's been absolutely, totally worth it.

Like Coastie says, some programs are running in the background, completely unobstrusive. Also, you'll have the icons in the Notification area (bottom right hand corner) so you can access them whenever you want.

Good luck to you.

Re: In need of Simple, good, fast anti-spyware/virus
Well i would recommend Avg (anti virus) you can also but it. But i am using the free version. The anti virus is not the most important security program it is actually the anti spy, it is ecential to have a very good anti spy, why i say its more important, is that most of the time you get trojans, hackers and so on, those are the bad ones, the spy ware!! So i would recommend you to try and find the best one to get, i am using Super Anti Spy but there are other good ones to.

Hi unluky, I'm using avg and have had no problems at all. The only update pop up occurs at start up. but you can choose to update at your leisure and avoid that. coastie65

Re: In need of Simple, good, fast anti-spyware/virus
Hi unluky, The only other pop up would be at the completion of a scan giving you the results. That is all. I have been quite happy with avg after dumping Norton. coastie65

Avg will do the trick.. but i still strongly advise you give avast a try, incase you didnt know you can disable those popups if your ingame or something, theres a function where you can enable scan for full screen games. lol i dont like sleepywood cuz the ip ban me just cuz im a hacker..... and when i sent in a request to unban my ip they just said f off we dont want any hackers here...

Re: In need of Simple, good, fast anti-spyware/virus
:D Hi :

I have NEVER seen a LEGITIMATE security program give a "useless" PopUp; ANY Info they give is

something they found that effects the security of your computer and they are giving you Options as

to WHAT you want to do about it . Either that or you have NOT correctly "configured" the program to

meet your SPECIFIC needs .

Even though I use Avast Antivirus and Advise on their Support Forums, I feel AVG Antivirus FREE

Edition would be best for you because it is considered the easiest to operate .
