Re: PC World Announces Dream PC Contest

You are obviously not very computer savy are you? If you knew anything about PC's then you would know that you have the SSD's for seek time with your OS and installed programs and the 300GB drives are for online data storage like movies, pictures and music. Vista Ultimate is for the media center capabilities.

This PC kick's serious butt!

Re: PC World Announces Dream PC Contest
I agree about taking the money and building my own because I have no idea about some of the hardware mentioned and I don't really do the gamin' thing.

PC World Announces Dream PC Contest
When I saw that PC World was giving away a $30,000 machine I almost fell off my chair. But when I saw the parts list I got a little jealous that I didn't own that good of a computer. I just want to say awesome build PC World. This just goes to show when money is no object, sky's the limit... Seeing this build only makes me want to build my own gaming pc once I have the funds for it. Keep it up PC World!!! :)

If you get 23 grand, you can get a pretty good desktop without having to pay for the labor such as the hp blackbird 002 and you have the freedom of choice of which brand laptop you want or what's in it.

Re: PC World Announces Dream PC Contest
I looked up how much this would end up increasing my taxes. Depending on how much I make this year it is going to be between $1,500 and $2,500 (before deductions) ... which is about what I was planning to pay on a new computer anyways. Anyways, we all know I'm going to win it anyways. ;-)

Re: PC World Announces Dream PC Contest

The trouble is that you can't take the money (even if they offered) because the money doesn't exist. Do you really think PC World is paying real money for this?

I am sure the companies are getting something out of it... Probably not more than the free advertising this lands them though. I suspect that's why the final parts list is not finalized... They are not 100% sure who is really going to deliver... They probably have good faith agreements on some of the parts for example, rather than firm commitments.

That doesn't reduce the value any... It probably would cost $35,000 if you bought everything at full retail value... Maybe $20,000 if you shop online. And you could probably sell it pretty easily for $10,000.. Or even part it out and sell it for $15,000+ on eBay. But that wouldn't be nice... It would probably make the people at PC World very sad.

Re: PC World Announces Dream PC Contest
The burners are listed in the parts list, 2 LG Super Multi GGW-H10NI. These are older models. I think they got picked because they can play back blu-ray and hd/dvd as well as burn blu-ray. IMHO- They should consider going with a blu-ray only solution because the format war is pretty much over. This way they can get a much faster, cheaper, newer burner.

Hi Bandit, Thanks for the info. I was thinking that was what they were, but couldn't locate them anywhere. Guess I need to work on my search techniques. coastie65
