Microsoft Update for August 2007

Hi Everyone. Yesterday, Microsoft released it's latest Security Updates. Normally, I get a notification that I have available updates and I can go in, select which ones I want, download and install them.

However, this time, it's stalled. It is trying to download the updates but it just won't go through. It's been trying now for 24 hours. Have anyone else run into a problem?

I'm about to get the update manually directly from Microsoft but before I do that I figured I would ask in here first.

it automatically downloaded on mines installed everything worked perfectly. I didn't know it was a security update since i didn't bother to read what it was.

Worked perfectly for me... Nine Windows security updates, and one Excel 2000 security update from Office Update site. All downloaded and installed with no problems. Maybe do a reboot and try going to the site manually and doing a custom update (works for me every time).

Yeah, I think I am going to do that. Just odd I guess. :? I already tried to the restart and still the same problem...oh well. Unless someone has the same problem as me, I will just do it manually.

ahh now it popped in my head i remember it was a Microsoft office update for 07, and something on security i believe. If that install didn't work mp you can just go to the Microsoft live update site and try it manually.

Yeah, thanks lilxkid. I am doing that right now. I won't worry about it too much unless this starts to become a trend.

:lol: when you want it to work it decides to do otherwise. Sometimes you have to be smarter then the software itself :roll:

Hi everyone. Just to give everyone an update...everything is fine. I did some manual updates last night. The only one that would not update was an update for Office 2003. I still use FrontPage 2003 so I periodically get updates for that.

I am not sure why it would not update; however, I did a quick online search and sure enough, I am not the only person who was having a problem with this update.

So, all's well in the world again...

for now anyway.

There are a couple of ways that one could do a manual update. i'll just show what I did:

Since Automatic Update stalled, I disabled Automatic Update and then re-enabled it.

I normally only select "Notify me when there are updates but do not download or install." This way, I can pick and choose which updates I want.

Once I re-enabled Automatic Update, the Windows Update icon appeared near the time.

I clicked on the icon and the list of all of the available updates, with KB codes, appeared.

I looked through the list and whichever update I wanted, I wrote down the KB code

I went to this site and searched for each update manually.

When I found the specific one I wanted, I downloaded it directly to my computer. Each of the files were self-extracting compressed files.

Once I was finished, I went back to the folder in which I downloaded all of the updates and manually installed each one.

All in all, the 10 updates that I manually installed took about 30 minutes. Now, if Automatic Update does not work properly for me in September, at least I know what I have to do to successfully complete the update.
