I just don't get Apple. They have a pretty cool product in the iPhone but they really don't see what their customers are asking for.

I totally understand them not wanting a user to be able to switch providers when Apple and ATT have so much invested in the custom software that runs on the iPhone, but come on, whats the big deal about the software?

The iPhone is just a gizmo with a mini-OS. As such why not make that available to people so that they can add to it as they wish.

So long as the user can restore the device if they need to what is the problem.

If they spent their time locking down the phone tighter than fort knox that would be money well spent. But people will be hacking the device forever so they can install software that they want to use. Make it available and Apple can have a win on that part

Watch Pirates of Silicon valley. You will very quickly realize that Steve Jobs is a complete ass. I will never own a Ipod nor an Iphone. I will never give that greedy bastard a dime of my money. I don't own nor ever will own a MAC.

Either they're going to releaes an SDK at or shortly after the LEOPARD launch, or they've just 'DROPPED' the ball. The INSTALLER.APP for iPhone is simply incredible.

I didn't expect a 'free software itunes type' store .. but thats what you get with INSTALLER.app! Imagine, you run the program and you see any new updates to existing software and newly released native applications for your phone.

coming from a 'pocket pc' world, I was used to having to install through the comptuer (via active sync) Imagine my suprise, when, after installing 'installer.app' You can view software and click to install !! Wow.. Amazing.

Imagine if APPLE would have come up with this.. through the online iTunes iPhone app? .. They lacked the vision though.. and now its sour grapes that people are doing this and they're not making money...

Its very sad that Americans on one side whats to go to MARS but Apple (another American firm) does not allow people to get into a Phone. No doubt iPhone is the best Hi-Tech toy ever till date but Apple should allow humans to use as they like. This may have commercial impact for Apple / provider but its part of the GAME.

"Steve Jobs" come on you know every thing you were already good by giving me a $100 credit make the next move....make iPhone an Open Platform.

Ah the excitement of hacking! I've heard that Deutsch Telekom will be having this phone in Novermber. Since it's sister market is T-Mobile people don't really need to hack the phone in the near future. I've also heard that Orange will also be having the iPhone. I know the phone from Europe will be pricier but can't wait 'till someone will be able to sell them on eBay. But then again I'm happy with my MDA for now. Love the iPhone but it has to have more features that it has now, hopefully a memory card and replaceable battery.

Why bother downgrading when 1.1.1 is already hacked:
