Roxio 10 Versus Nero 8
It seems Roxio/Sonic's new path is to gouge the consumer, and then gouge them again. They no longer seem to support each release as they just put their efforts into the next one, with no bug fixes for the current. Their prices are a ripoff.

I have tryed Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 and would never install it on my computer again, it has the worst uninstall I have ever seen on a program.
It took me Hours to remove any reference to Roxio from my registry.
(pentium D, 1GB ram, windows Vista Ultimat)

I've been a Nero user for a VERY long time: since it was the only burner available -- as shareware! I make thousands of DVDs each year (not all with Nero, but many).

Each new version gets farther and farther from their roots. The most recent upgrade (prior to the one mentioned in this article) added so much bloat that I almost uninstalled it immediately. Having used it now for a few months I find it slow and unintuitive compared to all the previous versions I've used. It was almost as if I was learning to use a new piece of software.

That's my way of saying that I wouldn't upgrade to a new version of Nero even if they PAID ME.

Nero has fallen into the trap of trying to be everything to everyone. If they are indeed in a "war" with Roxio, they should seriously consider stepping away from the front. They used to have a decent burner, but now it's all just crap, crap and more crap.

I have tried many times to use Roxio/Sonic and it simply does not work with hardware. Given that it is provided with Dell PCs you would think the CD burner in the Dell would work with Roxio but I've had buffer underrun and slow burn speed problems. I've had this also on other computers i've used with different hardware. Roxio just does not work.

I bought Nero and the money was well worth it. Yes there is a lot of bloatware in it, but a lot of it is somewhat useful. However the best thing about it is it WORKS. It is a CD-burn software that actually is able to burn CDs. Not true of Roxio/Sonic. I have also noticed how hard it is to delete Roxio off my computer. The Sonic DLA system crashed every time on my computer. Now I have Nero, no more crashes.

Sure Roxio is easier to use, cheaper, smaller, more intuitive - but Nero actually does what it is supposed to. I will never ever use Roxio again.

Jon L. Jacobi, PC World; I am not up to date on DVD burners! Are there others that will do the same job as these. I need new software right now to use my new DVD player/recorder. A few days ago my Nero went south (ran out of trial time) and I had really not used it at all. I tried to use some windows software, but to no avail. I'm one person you helped decide Jon, I think I will download the Nero. Thanks!

Re: Roxio 10 Versus Nero 8

I like what Roxio did to version 10. I find it easy to find the tasks and then go step by step. I admit I'm not so technical, but then the program is good for people like me. I was even afraid to upgrade to Vista but it wasn't so bad. Then roxio 10 works so well and installed so easily that I'm sold on the product. Maybe other products are better for more technically advanced users though. The prices for HD burners are so outrageous now that I can't see getting one until the prices drop. This program is just fine for what I need.

I have been a Roxio user since version 3. I purchased version 6 and was not completely happy with it but over a period of time it became tolerable. As for purchasing a new upgrade of this product 10. I am reluctant to do so at this time. I may just wait to see if a better or more reliable software becomes available

Its great to see that people are talking about the good and bad features in these competitors. I just wanted to thank everyone for their comments and to keep them coming! We are taking notice and working to make our support and products better. Any specific frustrations or positive aspects of the product help us evolve and learn.

Thanks again,

Kara @ Roxio

There are a lot of features that are similar. Roxio's has the tivo file support and the music auto tagging so I thought I'd give it a try. It has done everything I needed so I have no complaints. The editing programs are quite good. It was the right decision for me.

I HAD Roxio 9, it loaded all sorts of crapware, slowed my machine down, was difficult to use, and worked when it felt like it. Use a freeware program !!

I assume Roxio, like Sonic MyDVD supports burning .Tivo files. Does Nero it yet or is it a Sonic exclusive?
It's a must have feature for me.
