Make Vista's User Account Control Work for You
This method does work.... for a while. But after EVERY Windows update (or even going to the Windows Update page to check for updates0 the UAC is back on. very irritating!

Re: Make Vista's User Account Control Work for You
I had to turn off my UAC for a couple of weeks, but I didn't like not having the protection. So I turned it back on. Now I no longer mind the prompts I receive, I guess I've gotten used to it.

I did it a few months ago and never looked back... UAC is for beginners and I don't think that it gives you extra protection, since after a while, you don't pay attention to it anymore and are more vulnerable to threats.

If only you are using your system , then UAC is merely delaying your work by a few seconds, so its better to turn it off.
For multiple accounts on a system , its a powerful tool and theres a lot to tweak in there.

I just use Live One Care from Microsoft and I'm done. User control becomes less important, and I don't have to switch from Admin to User every time I want to download a file.

Re: Make Vista's User Account Control Work for You
I turn my UAC off just as soon as I install Vista. I only use Windows to play games. If you want to do serious computing & have security switch to Linux.
I have to reinstall Windows at least 2 or 3 times a year. I don't foresee Vista changing that fact.

Re: Make Vista's User Account Control Work for You

I don't like UAC. Why does it prompt for every single system change? (msconfig, software, etc.) It just slows me down when i need to be the most productive. I want to know why i need protection from actions that I know are safe. I wish there was an add to safe list with UAC. And plus Mcafee security center does a better job of keeping my computer safe from real threats instead of false positives/alarms within the computer itself.

Annoyance Buster: Make Vista's User Account Control Work for You
UAC meddling gave me the error message, "Failed to load resource DLL" when I tried to launch WS-FTP Pro, a program that had worked just fine for a month in my Vista Ultimate install. Why would UAC do such a thing? Because for some reason Vista forgot that I am an ADMINISTRATOR. I fixed the problem by turning UAC completley off -officially "not recommended"- and now my XP version of WS-FTP Pro works exactly in Vista as I'd hoped it would!

A free program WinBubble 1.71 will probably solve most of these problems w/o all of the person coding.

to create the desktop shortcuts, I used the right-click menu by right-clicking on the files where I saved them (User/Documents/Vista and chose "Send To > Desktop (create a shortcut)" -- Done!

Anyone know how to add gpedit.msc to Vista Home Premium? It has been stripped out

Re: Annoyance Buster: Make Vista's User Account Control Work for You

Vista home doesn't have gpedit. You can edit policy the registry keys though. Go here for more info.

btw, what's your opinion of vista?
