Sony needs to be on the winning side with Blu-ray. I'm sure Beta is still a bitter tasting memory.

But, but. But. I'm not done with DVD.

Both HD DVD or Blue Ray are hack jobs, with incomplete operating systems. Blue Rays system is so horrible that it doesn't even work for a lot of the disks produced and the OS need patches. Some of the players (both systems) will never let us use the full functionality on disks. And some disks will never fully work.

Both systems have nothing to do with getting a better product to the customer, they are both about trying to stop people from copying their DVD for any purpose. It's controlling how we manage our collections and trying to stop us making back-ups.

I think we are all tired of being told to run out and buy that new product that really isn't that special. They are trying to steer us towards one product or the other, with fear mongering that the other will become the next Batemax. And the truth is, there is nothing to stop both camps loosing. We could all be left owning hardware and disks that are "Has been technology".

It is funny how some in the industry are crediting Sony for putting the Blu-Ray drive into the PS3. Before it was viewed as forcing the customer into a format they didn't want. Turns out they do want the format as sales have shown with Blu-Ray winning over HD-DVD almost since the beginning.

Have we forgotten about ALL the exclusivity deals throughout the industry in favor of Blu-Ray? Target expands their Blu-Ray section over the holidays and ONLY selling Blu-Ray players. Blockbuster will rent ONLY Blu-Ray in their stores. BJ's Wholesale club goes Blu. I never once saw an announcement that a chain of stores or video rental company saying, "we're going full HD-DVD because we think it's better." That never has or will happen.

Blu-Ray is the winner. Anyone that thinks otherwise is just sailing the river of denial. How else can you explain (now) having 70% of the home movie market and not be considered the winner?

Now, had MS put an HD-DVD player in the 360...

How well I remember the wars between Beta Max and VHS. So far, I have resisted anything related to high def until things shake out. I have see some DVD RWs out there that are dual format (HD and Blu-Ray) and rather pricey. I'll just cool my heels and wait. coastie65

Am I the only person that has a problem with Warner waiting until after the Holiday season to make this announcement? I will admit that I'm in the HD DVD camp here and this news stings quite a bit, but mostly because of the timing.

You are totally right about that tsprks... It does bother me that they waited, but the worst is that they are not even going to do it right away. They are going to bleed the consumers for a few more months before stopping.

The timing of Warner's announcement is quite questionable and disappointing - did someone flip a coin before CES to make this decision, or did they bank on 100,000's of HD DVD players and discs to be given as Christmas gifts, opened and enjoyed for all of one week before sending a message to those people that they made the wrong decision, they get to buy those movies again in Blu-Ray when their current/obsolete player craps out in three years.

Re: Warner's Blu-ray Endorsement Boosts the Buzz at CES
We should all NOT buy any Hi-Def players until this thing is all over.
Personally I will never, ever buy a $ony product after that root kit fiasco
I like the HD-DVD just because Blu-Ray REQUIRES encryption, I know it can be cracked, that's not the point. I also agree with Pipers comments LOL. And the thought of MrBlu "Now, had MS put an HD-DVD player in the 360..." Remember BetaMax was technically better, but VHS was cheaper and that is still true here. Blu may be better, but HD is cheaper. Where is that Samsung player...the 5000 it plays both? DVD-R and DVD+R survived. I am looking into the home user burning information on these disks....And why did they name it BETAmax?

Re: Warner's Blu-ray Endorsement Boosts the Buzz at CES
I am a big DVD renter from Netfilx and have had a large screen HDTV for almost 3 years. I am not unhappy with standrard DVD played at 480P in my HD TV. While not as good as HD it is not bad either. I certainly can afford an HD-DVD or BlueRay player. But until an official winner, HD or Blu, is declaired, I am going to sit this out and stick with standard 480 DVD's. The industry is stupid thinking the consumers are dumb enough to by these machines until there is only one format.
