First paragraph: "more ...open-minded"

Second paragraph: "...less modest and more assured of their own superiority"

...huh?? Isn't this contradictory? Which is it?

"less modest and more assured of their own superiority"

I'm more assured of my superiority over anyone who turns their computer choice into a religion.

I'm also more assured of my superiority over Steve "snubbs-alot" Jobs for snubbing and screwing over his top fans.

I'm also more assured of my superiority over the section of the Mac community that thinks that anyone using a PC is a fool, who will be 100% more happy with a Mac, and will be instantly smarter, and the section that believes that PCs are just virus-ridden bricks, and the section that believes that anyone using a PC is unhappy.

There are reasons people use alternatives, and thats choice. If you choose to use a Mac, more power to you, but don't be an ass about it like some of the Mac users are.

I'd rather someone use a Mac then be turned off completely to technology, but I'd rather use a diffrent OS then OS X. I'd also rather to be able to mod my hardware, even as nice as Apple's hardware is. Thats choice too.

What a fetid load of dingoes kidneys.

The user base of Mac compared to PC users is so small, and have (mostly) been lead by the nose since their Mac days in college/design schools (which have Macs because Apple either gave them away or made it lucrative for them to buy them) and have been following that lemming ever since. Brilliant marketing move on Apple's part, but hardly creative. And Mac programs MAY have once been more graphical pretty and useful on Macs, but that ship sailed long, long ago.

"Computers for the rest of us?" Bull! Apple's marketing campaigns are (mostly) based on Not Being Windows/IBM/Microsoft, etc. But overpriced hardware, over indulgent marketing people, evangelical cheerleaders and arrogant users do not make one "more open-minded" or "more liberal" and certainly not "superior." Open-minded means willing to look outside the (Mac) box, plus open and look inside of that box as well. Thousands of 3rd-party companies and millions of users can't all be wrong.

Obviously, the author doesn't watch Fox News during the day.

The daytime anchors that have laptops on their desks have changed from Dell's to Apples in the last couple of months.

By comparison with the other networks, Fox News is more conservative, even though they would say they are "fair and balanced."

Conservatives can be open minded. You have to be open minded to chose the less popular operating system.

PC users are lemmings?! How about all the videographers out there using FCPro just because everyone else is using it?!

Hmmm, judging by BobMutascio's conservative response, he's a PC man.

Open Minded? Give me a break. They have their minds made up and don't want to be confused by the facts.

I am a Liberal, but owning a Mac has nothing to do with it. Also, I prefer Mac but I don't believe it is superior over the PC, I just like the preferences of it. Though I am proud of owning a Mac, I won't shout it out loud due to some of the bias of some PC users. Oh, and I Hate Those MAC Commercials Depicting The PC Has an inferior program compared to the Mac. I like both, but just a little more than the other.

Ya, what he said.
I have never seen an open minded Mac user.

Re: 'Mac People' More Open, Liberal Than PC Users?
I would definitely classify myself as liberal and open-minded but this has nothing to do with my decision to purchase a mac. In fact, my rationale is somewhat opposite of that used by Apple because rather than choosing a mac to go against the grain or be a rebel against PC or whatever, I chose to buy a mac purely for superficial reasons and to be a mainstream consumer. Mac's have a nice design aesthetic and I could care less how safe the OS is or whether it works well because I bought it for it's looks and the social connotations that go along with it. The fact that macbook pros are somewhat overpriced and that the mac brand can be thought of as elitist were motivators for my purchase - I would never buy an HP purely because so many people can afford them and I don't want something that everyone has. It's the same rationale that drives me to buy $300 Dior jeans or a Hugo Boss suit that costs 2 grand and maybe because I'm only 19, I like having things that set me apart from others a bit. Now this may just seem like some substance-less superficial post from a spoiled college kid but I guess the main point of all of this is that it annoys me when people try to classify mac users or the apple brand in general. Apple is really no different from any other company and people who think they really have a deep bond with their consumer are dilusional because the bottom line is that Apple is out to make money (as they should be) just like any other major company out there. The fact that they have created a "persona" over their brand does nothing but show that they have a very gifted marketing department.

Could anyone trying to refute the argument have sold it any better? I think not. If all that marketing-hyped stuff makes you feel worthwhile, more power to you, but I'd never let marketing pukes decide what's important in my life. As far as being set apart from others, PT Barnum had a saying about that. "There's a sucker born every minute."

Mac programs MAY have once been more graphical pretty and useful on Macs, but that ship sailed long, long ago.

There is some truth to that, although I can still find Mac apps that have no PC equivalent. Of course Macs were once more expensive than PCs, but that ship also sailed long, long ago.

They have their minds made up and don't want to be confused by the facts.

What facts would those be, sir?

When I bought my Macs, I did a helluva lot of research, and talked to quite a few hard core geeks. Both times, the Macs were the better deal, based on price, features and reliability.

On the other hand, I just purchased a non-Apple server, because for my needs, the Xserve RAID is not a good fit. Now I just have to decide on a Linux, Solaris or BSD flavored OS.
