I say people must like spam, otherwise they would not reply to it, and it would all stop, fast.

Only a few people have to reply to a spam message for it to be profitable, and those few responses raise hell for the rest of us. If everyone was intelligent and stopped responding, there would be more space on servers for legitimate things. I say that if you get spam, never reply, or you will get 1,000,000 more messages.

I think it's absolutely crazy that out of 3 billion emails, 2.5 billion are spam. That's almost 80% of the email traffic consisting of spam. I'm an IT specialist and have to deal with spam on a daily basis. The answer to faster Internet isn't bigger pipes, but rather putting an end to spam. I have to agree with 0Chance, be smarter and actually think about the messages you decide to open.

I would like to know what percentage of internet users don't have the slightest idea that it is dangerous to open spam. I'm sure the number is shockingly high. We need to educate them.

Re: Crafty Spam Outsmarts Gmail's Filters
I don't know for sure, but there are only 18 people using e-mail on my network and about half have no clue what spam is other than they need to send it to me when they get it. I've headed off three malware attacks on our firewall since starting here almost a year ago. My example isn't a huge representation of the world population, but 50% "who have no clue" is a bit scary and I'm sure its much higher than that. How many people do you know that have a computer "to surf the web and get e-mail"? How many of them do you think know half of what they're doing when they open a spam?
