"Windows XP was launched near the end of October 2007"

Should be:

"Windows XP was launched near the end of October 2001"

XP was a huge improvement over previous Operating systems. The only thing I like better about Vista than XP Home is it's networking abilities. XP Pro has good networking too. My old desktop runs Xp x64 without problems. It's not even capable of running Vista.

With all the maintenance issues with XP, and what I hear about Vista, I bought a Mac. And I am pleasantly surprised with it. After 14 years with MS, now I find what I've been missing.

MS was lucky to have items other than Vista to shore up their revenue. MS did miss Christmas '06 with Vista, but it was definitely available for Christmas '07. If MS doesn't think the currently skyroceting interest in the Mac, Linux and user desire to keep XP supported and available beyond June '08 is not caused by the low ratings Vista has received, I would think they've had their head in the sand for the last 16 months.

My own experience with Vista has shown a couple of improviements over XP (Aero graphics and networking enhancements), however MS has removed a bunch of user customization options that were available in XP.

With these customization shortcomings and all the drivers for legacy devices that have never been released for Vista it's no wonder that Vista's revenue stream hasn't materialized as MS had hoped.

Re: Is Vista to Blame for Windows Revenue Drop?

Microst is still in complete denial. They just saw one quarter of their revenue go South and they're still incapable of being truthful about Vista and until they do, things will just get worse.

Maybet they'll hire a CFO who can figure out that Vista is causing "lackluster" PC sales rather than PC sales causing "lackluster" Vista sales. Customers, both consumers and businesses, aren't upgrading becuase they don't want to be stuck with Vista preinstalled. They have compelling reasons NOT to upgrade right now and until Microsoft gets their act together the probem will simply worsen.

Many of us could see these results coming a mile away and said so often in forums just like this. So why haven't Microsofts Executives who earn millions to keep a close eye on the franchise?

If I were in charge I'd fire every senior manager tomorrow and install people who understand what Microsoft needs to do to right the sinking ship. And righting the ship does not include ignoring the needs of the OS business while trying to morph into Google.

There are many many users who were very upset when they got their new computers home with Vista Home Premium on it and found that it didn't have any "FAX" program included on it.
Word spreads like wildfire, so this may be another reason it's not that popular. Everyone uses faxes these days!
