Re: Reality Check: Kissing My Landline Goodbye

I have a cellular phone, and a cellular wireless (EVDO) card with unlimited connectivity in a wireless router. It's about 1Mb down and 256K up.

What do I need a land line for? Seeing as the phone lines are in HORRIBLE condition in this area ('underground' lines exposed, junction boxes crushed and held together with duct tape, etc.) it would be utterly STUPID to get a land line. The local company got bought out by AT&T, stripped, then re-sold to Verizon and stripped some more. They won't do anything preventative, like bury their exposed cables. They literally say they won't fix anything unless there is a fault, and you have to talk to people in the Phillipines to dispatch a truck for five miles away. There aren't any data services here over the wire but dial up.
